The Playford Hotel, part of the Accor MGallery Collection, is a 5-star boutique property offering exceptional luxury in the heart of Adelaide. We are currently seeking a skilled and detail‐oriented Hotel Accountant to join our Finance team and support the hotel's financial reporting, statutory compliance, accounting systems and financial performance.
Position Purpose
The Hotel Accountant is responsible for supporting the Financial Controller with the hotel's accounting, financial reporting, statutory compliance and financial analysis functions.
The role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing management and financial reports, reviewing income and expenditure, supporting taxation and statutory reporting, maintaining accounting systems, and assisting management to make informed financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with internal policies, accounting standards and statutory requirements.
* Prepare monthly management accounts, profit and loss reports, balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations and financial reports.
* Prepare and review journals, accruals, prepayments and other accounting entries required for month‐end reporting.
* Prepare financial statements, accounting reports and supporting schedules for management, head office and compliance purposes.
* Review income, expenditure, operating costs and departmental financial performance.
* Prepare financial analysis and reports to assist with budgeting, forecasting, cost control and profitability.
* Identify and investigate financial discrepancies, variances, unusual transactions and reporting irregularities.
* Prepare BAS, taxation records, payroll tax, superannuation reporting and other statutory financial obligations.
* Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audit, statutory reporting and compliance purposes.
* Maintain and improve accounting systems, financial reporting processes, record‐keeping procedures and internal controls.
* Support internal and external audit processes by preparing reports, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
* Provide accounting support and financial information to the Financial Controller, hotel management and Heads of Department.
* Assist management to understand the financial impact of operational decisions, expenditure, cost‐control measures and capital projects.
* Recommend improvements to accounting procedures, reporting processes and internal controls where required.
Skills and Experience
* CPA‐qualified accountant with a bachelor's degree or higher qualification in accounting, commerce, finance or a closely related field.
* Experience in financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, statutory reporting and management accounting.
* Strong understanding of accounting standards, BAS, taxation records, payroll tax, superannuation reporting and financial compliance requirements.
* Experience preparing management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, profit and loss reports and month‐end reports.
* Ability to review income, expenditure, operating costs and financial performance.
* Experience maintaining accounting systems, internal controls and audit‐ready financial records.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to investigate discrepancies, variances and financial irregularities.
* High level of accuracy, confidentiality, professional judgment and attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate financial information clearly to management and operational departments.
