Full Time | Continuing (This position will be research-only for the first 5 years of appointment, followed by a continuing teaching and research position)
Applications are encouraged from candidates working across the broad field of critical engineering technologies, preferably with a strong background in mechanical or electronic and electrical engineering. Relevant areas may include advanced manufacturing, robotics and autonomous systems, cyber-physical systems, sensing and instrumentation, resilient infrastructure, energy systems, embedded and intelligent systems, communications technologies, control systems, smart materials, modelling and simulation, mechatronics, and integrated engineering systems with applications across industry, defence and infrastructure.
The role is appointed initially as a research-only position for five years, transitioning to a continuing teaching and research appointment.
Responsibilities
* Setting strategic research directions and goals for the area.
* Expanding research through external grants and contract income.
* Engaging with industry, government, and other external organisations.
* Strengthening research collaborations internally and externally.
* Contribute to research translation, commercialisation, and capability development.
* Supporting recruitment and mentorship of Higher Degree Research students and research fellows.
Qualifications
* A PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field aligned with critical national technologies.
* A distinguished international research reputation, demonstrated through high-quality publications, significant grant success, and impactful research outcomes.
* Proven leadership experience in a senior academic or research role, including managing teams, complex projects, and fostering research excellence.
* A strong track record of mentoring early- and mid-career researchers and supervising Higher Degree Research students to completion.
* Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 Security Clearance or higher.
