$134,000-$140,000 PLUS SUPER

Help strengthen a community-controlled organisation grounded in culture, Country and community.

Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporate RNTBC (under special administration) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate for the Bandjalang people. The corporation exists to protect and advance the rights and interests of Bandjalang common law holders and to manage native title and related affairs in a way that reflects cultural authority, accountability and community priorities.

As a community owned and controlled Aboriginal corporation, the organisation is guided by Bandjalang cultural values, respectful governance and strong community relationships. The corporation is committed to culturally safe, respectful and transparent engagement with Members, Common Law Holders, Elders and community stakeholders.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced and practical Business Manager who can bring structure, clarity and strong financial capability to a small community-controlled organisation. The role has a strong operational and financial focus and is responsible for ensuring the corporation's systems, compliance obligations, financial records and reporting processes are accurate, timely and audit ready.

The role

The Business Manager plays a key role in supporting the stability, accountability and effectiveness of a culturally governed organisation working on behalf of Bandjalang people. The position is responsible for ensuring the organisation's finances, systems and operations are well managed, compliant and transparent.

The Business Manager works within a culturally governed environment and plays an important role in supporting respectful community engagement, transparent decision‐making and operational practices that align with the corporation's responsibilities to Members, Common Law Holders and Country.

This is a hands‐on role suited to someone who can confidently manage both the financial operations and the day‐to‐day corporate functions of a small organisation.

The successful candidate will be based in Evans Head, NSW, with some flexibility to work remotely.

Key responsibilities

* Managing day-to-day financial and administrative operations.
* Accounts payable and receivable, invoicing and reconciliations.
* Payroll, superannuation and statutory compliance.
* Banking, cash flow, general ledger and financial records.
* Monthly financial reporting including budget variance reporting.
* Supporting governance processes including Board papers, registers and follow‐up of decisions.
* Coordinating audit processes, grant acquittals and financial reporting.
* Strengthening systems, processes and operational controls.
* Supporting culturally safe, respectful and inclusive engagement practices that recognise the importance of cultural authority, community relationships and accountability to Members, Common Law Holders and Elders.

What we are looking for

We are seeking someone who values respectful relationship‐building, understands the importance of culturally informed governance and can work in partnership with community in a way that supports trust, accountability and participation.

To be successful, you will bring strong practical financial management skills, a steady and organised approach, and the ability to work respectfully in a community‐controlled environment.

You will also demonstrate professionalism, sound judgement and the ability to engage respectfully within a culturally informed governance environment.

Demonstrated experience managing day‐to‐day financial operations including accounts, payroll, banking and reconciliations.

Experience preparing budgets and regular financial reports for Boards, and overseeing audits and acquittals.

Sound understanding of governance and accountability requirements in a community controlled or not for profit environment.

High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.

Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information clearly to non‐financial Board members.

Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and professionally with Aboriginal communities, including an understanding of cultural safety, cultural authority, community accountability and respectful engagement practices.

Qualifications and requirements

* Current driver's licence and willingness to travel.
* National Criminal History Check.
* Qualifications in accounting, finance, business administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Experience working in an Aboriginal organisation or Registered Native Title Body Corporate.
