Position Information

School counsellors are an essential part of the department's School Counselling Service. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance the work of teachers, strengthening student learning and wellbeing outcomes, and help families understand and manage their children's learning and mental health needs. This is a truly collegiate role offering unique challenges and opportunities for professional development and the chance to make a real impact on the lives of children and young people.

The successful candidate will be based at Forbes Public School and work across the lifespan with both primary and high school aged students. Working as a school counsellor in a NSW public school will enable you to engage with a diverse range of students and schools, providing great opportunities to use and expand your skills within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

Regular professional supervision is provided by the Senior Psychologist Education, and you will also participate in group and peer supervision as part of the district school counselling team. You will collaborate with school communities, colleagues, and outside agencies.

Continual professional development is encouraged, and the NSW Department of Education will support you to complete or maintain registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Forbes Public School, situated on the Lachlan River and on the land of the Wiradjuri people, has an enrolment of 320 students, with 25% identifying as Aboriginal. The school offers 14 mainstream classes and 5 special education classes for students with various intellectual and emotional needs.

Students are supported within a Positive Behaviour for Learning culture, led collaboratively by a team that ensures a whole‐school proactive and shared approach to wellbeing. A Stronger, Smarter approach enhances the high‐expectation culture shared across the school.

Selection Criteria
* Experience in counselling using evidence‐based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
* Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve the learning and wellbeing outcomes of children and young people, including those from diverse backgrounds.
Conditions
* Be a registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
* Be able to travel between worksites and possess a valid unrestricted driver's licence.
* This position is under the Teachers award. To be eligible you must have an unconditional, full approval to teach or be eligible to apply for one. If you do not hold such approval, you must commence the application process for an approval to teach at the same time as you apply for this role.
