Business Development Manager – Mining Technology & Autonomous Systems

EACON Mining Technology delivers the world's most deployed autonomous haulage system. Founded in 2018 in China, EACON provides turnkey solutions that optimise surface mining operations through scalable mixed fleet autonomy. Our flagship platform, ORCASTRA, is fully OEM agnostic and compatible with trucks of any brand, whether new or existing. With vehicle level autonomy, 360‐degree perception, and real‐time optimised dispatching, we help mines enhance safety, improve productivity, and accelerate their path to net zero. EACON also brings deep expertise in emission‐reducing powertrain technologies, offering hybrid electric, battery electric, and retrofit autonomy options to support a safer, greener mining future.

With the launch of Eacon Mining Technology Australia Pty Ltd in December 2023 and significant milestones in 2024, we have established a new office in West Perth and expanded collaboration with partners and clients. We are rapidly growing, and as such, we are looking for talented professionals to join our thriving team in Perth.

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager on a full‐time basis to drive business growth, build strategic customer relationships, and help shape the future of autonomous mining. The successful candidate will possess a strong mining industry background, an established industry network, and a proven track record of selling complex technology solutions to mining customers.

Based in Perth, you will work closely with the Chief Business and Growth Officer, and will be responsible for identifying, developing, and converting commercial opportunities within the Australian mining sector. Additionally, you will work closely with customers, partners, technical teams, and company leadership to drive opportunities from initial market engagement through to commercial negotiations and contract execution.

Key responsibilities Business Development & Market Expansion
* Develop new customers and business opportunities within the Australian mining sector.
* Build and maintain long‐term relationships with mine owners, OEMs, and industry partners.
* Develop strategic account plans and market development strategies for key customers.
* Establish and strengthen relationships with key decision‐makers and influencers within mining organisations.
* Represent EACON at industry conferences, exhibitions, customer events, and business engagements.
* Continuously monitor industry trends, customer needs, and emerging market opportunities.
Opportunity Development & Customer Management
* Lead customer engagement activities from initial contact through to commercial negotiation stages.
* Identify customer pain points, business needs, and operational challenges.
* Understand customer organisational structures, decision‐making processes, and approval pathways.
* Develop customer‐specific value propositions, commercial strategies, and ROI‐based business cases.
* Organise customer workshops, site visits, product demonstrations, and technical discussions.
Commercial & Contract Negotiation
* Work closely with Commercial team members to develop commercial proposals and pricing strategies.
* Lead or participate in commercial negotiations with customers and partners.
* Collaborate with Commercial team members to design and develop commercial models, including equipment acquisition, software subscriptions, technical services, and outcome‐based pricing arrangements.
* Balance customer requirements with EACON's long‐term commercial objectives.
* Support contract development and customer procurement processes.
Market Intelligence & Strategic Support
* Collect and analyse market trends, competitor intelligence, and customer feedback.
* Identify emerging opportunities in autonomous mining, electrification, digital mining, and related technologies.
* Support the development and execution of strategic partnerships, alliance opportunities, and market entry strategies.
Cross‐Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with product, engineering, project delivery, and management teams.
* Translate customer requirements into actionable product and business inputs.
* Support product localisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
About you Required Qualifications and Experience (Must Have) Mining Industry Experience
* Minimum 10 years of experience within the Australian mining industry.
* Strong understanding of open‐pit mining operations, production processes, and mining business drivers.
* Experience working directly with mine owners, mining technology providers, or OEMs.
* Strong understanding of key mining operational KPIs, including productivity, utilisation, equipment availability, safety performance, and cost management.
Industry Network & Customer Relationships
* Established and active professional network within the Australian mining industry, particularly among key decision‐makers.
* Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with operational and management stakeholders within mining organisations.
* Demonstrated ability to access and engage senior customer decision‐makers.
* Strong personal credibility and industry reputation.
Executive Engagement Capability
* Demonstrated experience engaging with senior executives and C‐suite level stakeholders within mining organisations.
* Ability to communicate effectively with both operational and executive audiences.
* Proven ability to navigate customer decision‐making processes and secure executive sponsorship for major projects.
* Ability to independently present commercial proposals, business cases, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership teams.
Complex Solution Sales Experience
* Proven success in selling complex technology, engineering, operational, or mining solutions.
* Experience managing long sales‐cycle opportunities involving multiple stakeholders and approval processes.
* Strong ability to identify customer needs and develop value‐based commercial solutions.
* Experience developing ROI analyses, business cases, and investment justifications.
* Demonstrated ability to progress opportunities from initial engagement through to contract execution.
Business Development Capability
* Proven ability to independently identify, create, and develop new business opportunities.
* Strong stakeholder management and relationship‐building capabilities.
* Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
* Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
* Experience working successfully within high‐growth or entrepreneurial environments.
Commercial Negotiation Capability
* Demonstrated experience leading commercial negotiations.
* Strong understanding of commercial models, pricing strategies, and contract structures.
* Familiarity with procurement and commercial approval processes within large organisations.
* Ability to achieve commercial outcomes while maintaining long‐term customer relationships.
* Strong commercial judgement and business acumen.
Communication Skills
* Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively with technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
* Strong facilitation and cross‐functional coordination capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
* Experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), mining automation, Fleet Management Systems (FMS), Operational Technology (OT), or related mining technologies.
* Experience with mine electrification, battery‐electric mining equipment, or emerging mining technologies.
* Engineering, technical, or mining operations background.
* Experience working within international organisations or cross‐cultural environments.
* Experience in strategic partnerships, joint ventures (JV), or alliance development.
* Familiarity with procurement and approval processes within Tier 1 mining companies.
* Experience working with both mine owners and mining contractors.
