About the Role We are seeking a motivated and experienced Digital Communications Officer (APS6) to join a dynamic team within a Federal Government agency for a short-term contract.
In this pivotal role, you will support the delivery of strategic digital communication activities across a range of platforms, helping to inform and engage key audiences.
As an APS6 officer, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and contribute to the development and implementation of digital content strategies, manage web and social media channels, and deliver engaging, accessible, and effective communication products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate digital communication strategies and campaigns.
- Create, edit, and publish high-quality content for websites, intranets, eDMs, and social media platforms.
- Manage and monitor social media channels, ensuring alignment with agency tone and policy.
- Use data and analytics tools to track performance and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify communication needs and craft fit-for-purpose digital solutions.
- Ensure all content meets accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and government communication guidelines.
- Contribute to broader communication initiatives and support crisis or issue communications as needed.
About You You will bring solid digital communication skills, a creative and strategic mindset, and a solid understanding of government communications protocols.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in a digital communications or similar role, ideally within the public sector.
- Proficiency with content management systems (e.g., Squiz Matrix, Drupal), social media tools, and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Sprout Social).
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail.
- Understanding of accessibility and usability standards for digital content.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Experience in crisis or government-sensitive communications.
- Familiarity with video and graphic content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
Eligibility Requirements
- Australian citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance (if not already held).

Casual Loading
Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading.
This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
