Position Overview
The Protein Homeostasis Thematic Research Center (PH TRC) advances BMS’s protein degradation and homeostasis strategies from discovery into early clinical development to address tumor‑intrinsic vulnerabilities and resistance mechanisms—enabling action on targets previously considered undruggable. As the Brisbane‑based Senior Director of Translational Research, you will provide strategic scientific and organizational leadership in a cross‑functional, cross‑site environment, setting translational vision and standards and shaping and executing end‑to‑end translational strategies across a portfolio of early programs (pre‑IND through Phase 1). You will influence portfolio‑level decisions and ensure integration of preclinical biology with clinical biomarker strategy to drive patient enrichment, proof‑of‑mechanism, and decision‑grade data in first‑in‑human trials. Reporting into PH TRC translational leadership, this role operates in a highly matrixed, cross‑site environment, partnering closely with Discovery Biology, Translational Development, Precision Medicine, Informatics & Predictive Sciences, and Early Clinical Development. You will represent the translational function at enterprise‑level governance, regulatory interactions, and external scientific forums, while building and sustaining a high‑performing, globally connected translational organization.
Position Responsibilities
* Define and drive end‑to‑end translational strategy across a portfolio of early programs (pre‑IND to Phase 1), integrating preclinical biology with clinical biomarker planning to enable proof‑of‑mechanism, patient enrichment hypotheses, and portfolio‑level decision making.
* Lead and develop the Brisbane translational team, fostering scientific excellence, accountability, and career development in a collaborative, inclusive environment.
* Drive alignment with Translational Development, Precision Medicine, Clinical Development, and Informatics & Predictive Sciences (IPS) to ensure seamless execution of biomarker plans and data interpretation.
* Oversee design, optimization, and validation of translational assays for clinical sample analysis, ensuring robustness, reproducibility, and compliance with quality systems.
* Represent translational research at senior internal governance bodies, external scientific meetings, and health authority interactions; provide senior translational leadership input to regulatory submissions and briefing materials.
* Champion the application of advanced analytics and AI/ML approaches to translational datasets (multi‑omics, digital pathology, longitudinal biomarker data) to accelerate hypothesis generation and signal detection.
* Ensure audit‑ready documentation, adherence to QMS standards, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and scientific rigor across workflows.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree – 15+ years of academic and/or industry experience
* Master’s Degree – 12+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications
* Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Oncology, Translational Sciences) with 12+ years experience in translational research, including leadership roles in biotech or pharmaceutical settings.
* Deep understanding of biomarker strategy, assay development, and clinical sample analysis in early‑phase oncology trials.
* Proven track record of integrating preclinical and clinical data to inform dose selection and patient stratification.
* Proven ability to lead senior‑level teams and operate effectively in complex, global, matrixed organizations.
* Strong executive communication and influencing skills with internal governance bodies, regulators, and external stakeholders.
* Familiarity with advanced analytics and AI/ML applications in translational research; experience leveraging computational tools for multi‑omics and biomarker data integration.
* Knowledge of GCP, QMS, and regulatory expectations for biomarker data in clinical development.
* Strategic thinker with a results‑oriented mindset, adaptability to evolving priorities, and commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture.
