About the Role

BT imaging is looking for a highly experienced Head of Product Engineering to join our growing Technology team in Sydney.

In this role, you will have an incredibly exciting opportunity to lead cutting‐edge technology that drives efficiency and innovation in solar photovoltaics manufacturing. Photoluminescence systems play a critical role in monitoring and analysing solar cells' quality and efficiency in real time, directly within the production line. This position not only involves solving complex engineering challenges but also contributes to advancing renewable energy solutions on a global scale. By optimising these systems, the Head of Product Engineering will have the opportunity to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance the performance of solar photovoltaics, supporting a more sustainable future. Key Responsibilities
* Ownership of product / solution engineering life‐cycle, including but not limited to:
* Ownership of existing products and related engineering and product life‐cycle management
* Liaise with key clients to develop and document new (or changes in) product requirements and internal engineering specifications as required
* Develop new supplier partnerships in response to changing priorities and maintain relationships with existing strategic suppliers
* Support Head of Technology to develop cost‐down roadmaps
* Lead and work closely with Technology and Production teams to operationalise targeted cost‐reduction engineering efforts to ensure product profitability
* Incorporate / translate Voice of Customer feedback and Industry standards into actionable engineering requirements
* Regularly prepare and present engineering progress, proposals and project status reports to Head of Technology and/or other Senior Management of the company
* Assist Sales & Marketing teams to ensure marketing collateral is updated and consistent across marketing channels
* Lead development and deployment efforts for existing product upgrades and new products, including but not limited to
* Ownership of project planning, allocation of project tasks and tracking work progress. Ensure storage of information and project documentation in internal knowledgebase and databases.
* Provide guidance to systems engineering project teams including control systems, mechanical design, electrical design / PLC, hardware and software
* Ensure design / documentation versioning and release operations are performed in accordance with internal policies.
* Authorize key design decisions and releases for mechanical, electrical and control systems in alignment with key senior Technology team members.
* Revise and develop new QA/QC protocols and QA/QC hardware for system and sub‐system level testing
* Review, assess and operationalise new engineering software tools to be used by product developmentteams
* Liaise with Production team to ensure transfer of engineering and build documentation from Technology to Production is completed smoothly
* Directly support systems engineering efforts, including but not limited to
* Architect hardware and software configuration of products and associated test/QC systems under development
* Design verification and product validation
* Versioning and releasing Mechanical and/or Electrical CAD documentation.
* Lead QA/QC testing on prototypes and finished products
* Provide leadership towards other efforts within the Technology team including but not limited to
* Prepare project documentation and reporting for government grant programs
* Mentor team members and actively promote upskilling. Recruit new team members when appropriate.
* Capturing, processing and responding to support/service requests.
* Organise workspaces and maintain Technology / R&D inventory. Ensure adequate computer resources, tooling and PPE are available
* Develop safety procedures and actively monitor their application
* Support and/or lead other strategic efforts as identified by Company Management
Preferred Qualifications
* 7+ years of experience in the electro‐mechanical and/or control systems hardware product engineering domain is highly preferred, including
o 4+ years of recent hands‐on engineering experience in instrumentation / computer vision
o 2+ years of cross‐functional leadership experience across production, quality, supply chain, procurement and/or technical marketing
* 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager in the instrumentation / computer vision domain, including
o 3+ years of experience leading engineering project and resource management in a scale‐up environments and growth‐stage companies
o 2+ years of leadership experience in instrumentation / hardware product delivery and deployment
* Demonstrated expertise in delivering and managing instrumentation / metrology products with hardware‐integrated software/UI will merit strong consideration
* Masters Degree in Engineering or related disciplines, or Professional Engineer qualifications are a plus
Essential Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience as a professional engineer with deep expertise in one or more of Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Control Systems/PLC, and/or Instrumentation Engineering, of which
o At least 2+ years of hands‐on engineering experience each in two or more of the above‐mentioned disciplines
* 3+ years of engineering management experience within instrumentation / electro‐mechanical product manufacturing industry, of which
o At least 2+ years of experience managing cross‐functional engineering teams in three or more of the above‐mentioned disciplines
o At least 2+ years of experience with project management and delivery/deployment of hardware‐based products
* Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related disciplines, or equivalent
* Excellent problem‐solving skills, and a proactive approach to systems engineering
* Exceptional communication (oral and written) and reporting skills (technical and high‐level)
* Inclusive leader, able to liaise and capture requirements from different departments
* Must be competent with CAD systems and engineering processes - DFA, DFM, FMEA, FEA, etc.
* Experience using engineering productivity (e.g. Jira, Confluence, etc) and project management tools
* Experience with version control systems, release workflows and hardware design management
* Candidates must be located in Sydney (or be willing to relocate to Sydney). Applicants not able to meet this requirement will not be considered for this role.

* Candidates must have or be able to qualify for the right to work in Australia.
* This is a senior role reporting to upper management, and requires regular interaction with office‐based teams. Hence, this is NOT a remote work role and will be fully office‐based and located in Sydney.
