Role Overview
The Project Senior Tax Advisor is a key role for Shell Australia based in Perth. This is a 1‐year fixed‐term position. In this position you will be responsible for providing specialist tax advice to the Integrated Gas business to ensure adequate and proactive responses to business opportunities and risk. You will collaborate with other tax functional areas (transfer pricing, indirect tax and employment tax).
Responsibilities
* Identify and resolve technical problems by facilitating solutions individually or as part of a cross‐functional team and serve as first line of escalation and resolution of issues.
* Provide proactive and straightforward advice to complex businesses and transactions whilst balancing value and risk.
* Interact with Global and Regional teams to ensure cross‐border issues are properly managed.
* Develop and maintain expertise in country tax advice and structuring, including knowledge sharing with team members (both onshore & offshore).
* Monitor developments and changes in Australian direct tax and ensure businesses are being properly advised and implemented.
* Build and maintain co‐operative relationships with revenue authorities consistent with the Shell Responsible Tax Principles.
* Collaborate with the Tax Operations Manager, Tax Lead and tax compliance and reporting teams to ensure all aspects of planning and advice are properly considered in the compliance and reporting process.
* Proactively engage with the business to ensure tax information is disseminated and tax issues are understood, sufficient to identify business changes/issues impacting tax.
* Establish and maintain good working relations within Shell and the Tax Community.
Qualifications
* Broad experience in business taxation working for multinational businesses or a professional firm.
* Recognised professional qualification and membership of a recognised accounting or legal professional body.
* Experience with tax technologies, including AI tools and analytics to drive efficiencies across tax processes.
* Effective communicator of complex tax issues, both written and oral.
* Effective at establishing and maintaining external relationships for the benefit of Shell.
* Strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others within and outside of Shell.
* Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the business.
* Comfortable reviewing the impact of tax on project economics and financial modelling.
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
