Cardinal Contractors is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Operations / General Manager to lead our Civil and Mining Division across multiple operations in Western Australia. This position will be conducted out of our Bunbury and Collie offices and require travel to project sites as required. It is not a FIFO role.
This senior leadership role reports directly to the Managing Director and oversees operational performance, project delivery, people leadership, safety, client relationships, and strategic growth initiatives across the business.
About the Role
As Head of Operations / General Manager, you will provide leadership and direction across both site-based and corporate operations. You will work closely with the senior leadership team, operations manager, project manager, supervisors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. This role is highly strategic and operational, requiring a strong people leader who can drive culture, accountability, performance, and business growth while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee multiple civil and mining operations across WA
* Provide strategic operational leadership across all projects and personnel
* Manage project delivery including scope, budgets, scheduling, resources, and performance
* Mentor and support Project Managers, Supervisors, and site leadership teams
* Drive a strong safety and compliance culture across all operations
* Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
* Identify and secure new business and growth opportunities
* Take a leading role in tendering, budgeting, and business strategy initiatives
* Monitor operational performance and provide regular reports to the Managing Director
* Ensure effective workforce planning, resource allocation, and operational efficiency
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and systems implementation including MEX
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar senior operational leadership role
* Strong background in civil construction, mining, earthworks, road maintenance, or related industries
* Proven experience managing multiple projects, teams, and operational budgets
* Exceptional leadership and people management skills
* Strong commercial and strategic thinking capability
* Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills
* Ability to build strong client relationships and lead high-performing teams
* Strong understanding of WHS legislation and operational compliance
* Ability to work in fast-paced and demanding operational environments
Qualifications & Requirements
* Project management experience with demonstrated delivery success
* Current driver's licence
* Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening
* Current National Police Clearance
* CPPM, AIPM or similar professional membership highly regarded
