Overview

Based at Cannington College, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer plays a pivotal role in coordinating wellbeing support for students across the College. The college Residential provision provides accommodation for students aged 16+ studying across any of our College Group. The College's primary student accommodation is based at the Cannington campus and consists of 211 beds.

Working closely with the Counselling & Safeguarding Team Leader, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer is responsible for triaging referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided, and maintaining a calm and effective approach under pressure.

This role is central to supporting students - particularly those from vulnerable groups and those within our residential provision - by addressing a wide range of issues that may affect their learning and overall college experience. This role will also coordinate and monitor the wellbeing of the College's residential learners with a specific focus on the under 18 provision. A key element is to provide safeguarding support to all students in residential accommodation and work with students to mentor, self-assess, agree targets and review progress.

Responsibilities

* Provide one-to-one and group guidance and mentoring; signpost students to internal services or external agencies to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment across the college group.
* Offer safeguarding support to residential students and work with students to mentor, self-assess, set targets and review progress.
* Triaging referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided; maintain composure under pressure.
* Engage residential learners in clubs and compulsory residential sessions to develop personal, social and employability skills.
* Coordinate and monitor wellbeing of residential learners with focus on under 18 provision.
* Interviews and allocates residential places for students; provide 24/7 support for residential students with issues ranging from accommodation queries to wellbeing and enrichment.
* Supports the safeguarding of residential students and collaboration with the safeguarding team.

Requirements

* Experience in safeguarding, welfare, or student support roles; ability to triage referrals and provide timely, appropriate support.
* Ability to work 4 days on, 4 days off; 09:00 to 20:40 with one hour lunch.
* Experience with coordinating wellbeing in residential settings and with under 18 provision is desirable.
