Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a "state-wide entry point" for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.

Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.

Job Description

Permanent Part-Time 0.9 FTE | Northern Suburbs of Melbourne | SCHADS level 5 + Salary Packaging

We are seeking a Family Violence Crisis Specialist – Residential Services to join our team on a 12-month parental leave fixed-term contract. This role plays a vital part in supporting women and children experiencing family violence by delivering high-quality crisis response and case management within our residential services program.

Reporting to the Manager, Residential Services, the Family Violence Crisis Specialist provides frontline, trauma-informed support to victim-survivors accessing crisis accommodation. You will deliver risk assessment, safety planning, and case management, ensuring clients are supported in their journey from crisis to safety and recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed services aligned with MARAM and sector standards
* Provide face‐to‐face support, advocacy, referrals and case management to women and children in crisis accommodation
* Conduct comprehensive family violence risk assessments and develop safety plans
* Maintain a caseload and support clients to achieve safety and recovery goals
* Collaborate with internal and external services to secure appropriate housing and support pathways
* Support vulnerable and diverse clients, including LGBTIQ+, CALD, and First Nations communities
* Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold Safe Steps values of integrity, diversity, and empowerment

Desired Skills and Experience

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

* Relevant qualification in Social Work or related field (or working towards)
* Experience supporting clients impacted by family or domestic violence
* Strong understanding of family violence risk assessment, including child safety considerations
* Knowledge of the Victorian family violence sector and MARAM framework (or willingness to complete training)
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice, feminist theory, and the gendered nature of violence
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments with resilience and adaptability
* Commitment to Safe Steps' values of Integrity, Diversity, and Empowerment
* Current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
