About the role
Reporting to the Head of Business Intelligence Group, the purpose of the role is to identify and classify data risk, ensure that CBHS's data is accurate, consistent, secure, and used responsibly across the business. The Data Governance Manager will align data management with regulatory requirements, reduce risks associated with poor data quality or misuse and establishes clear ownership, policies and standards for how data is collected, stored, accessed, shared, enabling trusted and compliant data use.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
* Own the enterprise data governance frameworks, policies and standards; maintain alignment with strategy and regulatory change.
* Define and embed data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across all business units.
* Lead initiatives on metadata management, data lineage, classification, retention, and cataloguing
* Ensure enterprise compliance with data-related regulations (e.g., Privacy Act, CPS 234, CPG 235).
* Identify, assess, and contain data risk and data quality risk across all platforms, ensuring alignment with CPG 235.
* Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Security to mitigate data risks, including those from third-party/vendor solutions.
* Act as the accountable contact point for regulators, auditors, and risk committees on data matters.
* Build a stewardship network: appoint and coach Data Owners/Stewards; run stewardship forums; publish quality scorecards.
* Define data quality KPIs at the enterprise level and implement monitoring and remediation processes.
* Collaborate with executives, data owners, and stewards to embed governance into business operations.
About you:
* Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Data/Computer Science, Business, or equivalent.
* 5+ years' experience in data governance, compliance, or enterprise data management.
* Proven experience implementing governance frameworks and embedding them into business processes.
* • Demonstrated success engaging both technical teams (engineering, architecture) and business units.
* Deep understanding of data governance principles.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements (Privacy Act, APRA CPS 234 CPG 235).
* Strong stakeholder management, with ability to influence executives and business leaders.
* Skilled in resolving conflict between delivery needs (engineering) and governance requirements.
* Familiarity with data platforms and tools (Azure and Fabric).
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and change management skills.
