Inspector of Mines - Electrical (MIS17012, MIS18021)
Remuneration package of up to $177,328 per annum* (salary $132,753, superannuation $15,930, attraction and retention incentive $28,645). ARI payments expire 31 December 2026.
Location: Kalgoorlie, Goldfields–Esperance region, Western Australia.
The role
As part of the Minesafety team, you will administer the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022. You will use your extensive electrical background and knowledge of mine safety systems to conduct inspections, technical audits, investigations, prepare reports, and promote best practices across the industry.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting workplace inspections and technical audits.
* Investigating incidents and emerging safety issues.
* Preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
* Driving continuous improvement and supporting compliance with WHS legislation.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must hold a tertiary vocational or trade qualification in electrical engineering, or be a licensed WA electrician, and have substantial experience in:
* The mining industry within Australia.
* The practical application of work health and safety legislation and risk‐management principles with an electrical focus.
* Work health and safety regulations and relevant electrical standards for mines.
* Conducting complex investigations, managing emerging issues and leading projects.
Essential attributes include strong electrical expertise, analytical thinking, a sound knowledge of WHS legislation, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and confidently.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a visa that allows indefinite work and residence in Australia at the time of application.

Potentially traumatic events
This role involves a higher likelihood of exposure to potentially traumatic events, such as attending or investigating safety incidents or fatalities, interacting with distressed or aggressive individuals, and reviewing objectionable material. The department provides specific support and training for these events.
