People and Performance Partner – Australian School of Entrepreneurship
Location: Brisbane, QLD, AU. Full‑time position with periodic travel to Sydney and one work‑from‑home day per week.
Role seniority: senior, director, mid level.
About the ASE Group: a social enterprise delivering life skills, entrepreneurship and employment programs to young people and small business owners across Australia. We have operations in Brisbane and Sydney and staff working nationally. This role is based in Brisbane.
The Role
This role sits at the intersection of HR and people development. It is not a traditional HR role and is not purely operational – it combines both. You will own the people side of ASE end‑to‑end: hiring, onboarding, performance, development, culture and the day‑to‑day experience of being part of the team. You will also help the organisation communicate better, run smoother and grow without losing what makes it special.
You will work directly alongside the CEO, Co‑Founder and Director of Programs across the three divisions of ASE.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the full recruitment process – job descriptions, screening, interviews and hiring recommendations across QLD and NSW.
* Build and run a structured onboarding framework so new team members feel prepared, welcomed and set up for success.
* Establish and maintain a consistent check‑in schedule with all staff.
* Create personalised development plans with clear pathways for skill growth, wage increases and bonus eligibility.
* Manage all performance reviews, providing direct feedback and addressing issues before they compound.
* Serve as the trusted primary point of contact for people managers on all HR matters across the employee lifecycle.
* Manage employee relations matters end‑to‑end including performance, conflict and sensitive conversations.
* Support change management by partnering with the leadership team to plan and communicate organisational changes with clarity.
* Track and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and team milestones.
* Support the CEO and Co‑Founder with team bonding and culture initiatives across both states.
* Travel to Sydney periodically to check in with the NSW team in person.
Internal Communications
* Act as the central communication point between leadership and the wider team – nothing important gets lost or misread.
* Attend division meetings across Employment, Entrepreneurship and AIIL to stay informed and help connect the dots.
* Make sure every team member understands what’s happening across the organisation, not just the people closest to leadership.
* Support the CEO and Co‑Founders in communicating priorities into clear direction for the wider team.
Organisational Coordination
* Ensure ASE’s HR foundations are solid and compliant – contracts, policies, leave entitlements and employment obligations across QLD and NSW.
* Build and document internal processes that actually get used – not policy for policy’s sake, but systems that make the team better and actually get DONE.
* Regularly assess how things are running, identify inefficiencies and make improvements without waiting to be asked.
* Develop how‑to guides and training resources that help staff build the skills they need as we grow.
* Keep your own admin airtight and ensure the organisation always has what it needs, when it needs it.
What We’re Looking For
* Senior P&C, HR or Chief of Staff experience.
* Sharp eye for detail – “near enough” is not a phrase you use.
* Strong communicator across all levels of a team.
* Able to coach and grow staff and the executive team – building leadership capability, not just managing people.
* Builds trusted relationships with managers and coaches them to accelerate their growth as leaders.
* Coaches managers through complex people challenges across performance, conflict and difficult conversations.
* Direct, honest and comfortable with accountability.
* Multi‑site coordination across QLD and NSW.
* Self‑managed, organised and on top of their own admin.
* Builds systems that last and get things done.
Ideal Candidate Traits
* Calm under pressure – steady presence in chaotic situations.
* Not reactive – thinks before responding, does not carry things personally and distinguishes urgent from urgent‑looking.
* Empathetic professional – can pivot from high‑energy brainstorm to a sensitive one‑on‑one.
* Proactive with a can‑do attitude – does not wait for a to‑do list, sees gaps and fixes them.
* Genuine sense of humour – works hard, has fun and is enjoyable to be around.
* Adapts quickly – makes decisions with the information available.
* Steady in ambiguity – does not spiral when the plan shifts.
Bonus Points
Experience working alongside young founders and thriving in fast‑moving, pivot‑heavy environments where “near enough is good enough” is not acceptable.
From the CEO
“We’ve built something pretty special here and now we need someone who can help us protect and grow it. I need a real A‑player – someone with experience, great judgement and genuine care for people. Someone who coaches rather than just manages, builds systems that actually get used and holds the standard without being asked.”
“I'm great with operations, details and understanding the ins and outs of every project. I move fast and fit a lot into one day.”
“I want to find someone I can trust and who understands the expectations and standards that have got us to where we are today. I want to learn from this person as much as I want them to learn from us.”
It’s important to me that our team has fun whilst they’re on this journey with us. The culture of ASE is made up of great people and is everyone’s responsibility, but we need someone to lead the charge as we scale. You will be a big part of that!
Compensation
Salary is expected to be around $100,000–120,000 inclusive of superannuation. Structure may include bonus and incentive for outstanding outcomes. Please discuss your salary expectations and preferred structure in your application.
Application
Feel free to apply even if you do not meet 100% of the requirements. We welcome a wide range of candidates.
