Pathology Lab Assistant Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Pathology Lab Assistant.

About the Role:
* Responsibilities will include accessioning specimens, preparing slide trays, filing blocks and slides, and assisting with lab organization and maintenance.
* The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma, previous experience in a lab environment, and knowledge of general medical terminology.
* Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills are required for this role.

Responsibilities:
1. Receiving specimens into the lab
2. Releasing orders in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
3. Preparing 70% and 80% ROH solutions following proper procedure
4. Recycling ROH and Xylene
5. Changing solutions on the H&E stainer daily
6. Preparing specimens and blocks for grossing
7. Performing tissue embedding after completing in-house training and competency assessment
8. Preparing blocks for techs after embedding, including cleaning and organizing blocks prior to tech microtome cutting
9. Assisting with H&E slide preparation, including loading and unloading slides into/from the auto-stainer, and operating the cover slipper
10. Preparing slide trays and requisitions prior to delivery to pathologists
11. Daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning of lab equipment and tools per schedule
12. Dumping formalin vials and neutralizing formalin following proper procedure
13. Recording daily lab temperatures as listed on QC sheets
14. Receiving and stocking general lab supplies, performing monthly inventory as assigned
15. Recording orders on work lists and pulling blocks for techs
16. Slide, block, and requisition filing
17. Adhering to compliance and completing compliance training
18. Performing other related duties as assigned
