Cultural Fire Ranger Position
Are you passionate about preserving natural and cultural environments?
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Cultural Fire Ranger. This role involves participating in the implementation of cultural burning practices to support and enhance the health of specific environments within the Wimmera, Mallee & Grampians regions.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our team, other Natural Resource Management Unit staff, and external partners to achieve our goals for cultural fire management.

* Key Responsibilities:
* Participate in the preparation and execution of cultural burns
* Manage vegetation, including weed control and maintenance of equipment
* Report risks or issues related to estate assets
* Work cooperatively with external partners
* Gather data and assist in preparing project reports
* Support other On Country Operations Division members
Community and Partnerships
This role also involves contributing to community and promotional events to educate and raise awareness of Traditional Owner interests and objectives for cultural burning and associated projects.
You will have the opportunity to build and maintain positive relationships with other staff, Aboriginal community members, and NRM agencies.
As a Cultural Fire Ranger, you will play a critical role in promoting opportunities for Traditional Owners in fire management and supporting their aspirations for cultural burning.
* Required Skills and Qualifications:
* DEECA Fire Fighter/Fire Management accreditation or commitment to obtaining this accreditation
* Reasonable level of knowledge of cultural burning practices and/or fire management
* Ability to follow manager instructions and comply with protocols, policies, and procedures
* Awareness and understanding of historic and current issues affecting Aboriginal peoples and communities
