About the role

The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drug (MHAOD) Branch of Offender Services Directorate delivers mental health and alcohol and other drug healthcare to some of the most vulnerable and high risk individuals in the State.

MHAOD services are delivered by multidisciplinary teams made up of highly specialised staff including nurses, consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, aboriginal mental health workers and prison support officers. The team support all MHAOD patients to have a dedicated MHAOD case manager and individualised care plan.

The Clinical Nurse Manager MHAOD is responsible for leading and managing the MHAOD Nursing team and supporting administration, to deliver evidence-based care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

As a key leader in the multidisciplinary team the Clinical Nurse Manager MHAOD will ensure that the nursing teams and interacting areas meets the requirements for the delivery of a contemporary patient centered service against the key indicators of recovery focused program delivery, trauma informed care, quality improvement, budget and human resource awareness. The position provides expert advice within their area of care and management to relevant internal and external stakeholders.

The Clinical Nurse Manager MHAOD will be responsible for delivering an expanded specialty clinical practice role, which may include, but is not limited to the criteria outlined below.

- Knowledge within the specialised area of a secondary stream of MHAOD practice, with knowledge of care and management of dual diagnosis, that influences the outcomes of nursing both within the unit and external to the immediate area.
- Being a resource for other MHAOD nurses and other clinical and custodial staff particularly as an adviser and mentor
- Identifying education needs for contemporary mental health, alcohol and other drug service delivery.

Eligibility

Qualifications - successful applicants must:

- Possess a current registration in the category of Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and relevant post graduate qualification in mental health, alcohol and other drugs and/or extensive clinical experience in and mental health and drug dependencies
- Be an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner or working towards;
- Have a relevant post graduate qualification in mental health, alcohol and other drugs and/or extensive clinical experience in and mental health and drug dependencies;

Permanent positions - To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

- Skills and experience of working with culturally diverse clients.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold the DoJ Code of Conduct and manage unethical behaviour.
