Emergency Department Registrar - Advance Your Career Through ACEM Training
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Emergency Department registrars to join our team and continue their training within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN).
We offer access to all training requirements within one health network, a dedicated ED sonographer, award‑winning wellbeing program, PD leave, generous PD allowance, and flexible roster writers for work‑life balance.
Southern Adelaide Local Health Network covers the diverse population living in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide and comprises Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga hospitals.
Flinders Medical Centre is a major referral hospital and level 1 trauma centre, accredited for both Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine training by ACEM, and the state’s dedicated obstetric trauma centre. Our Emergency Department offers the true ‘cradle to grave experience’ in a well‑supported training environment.
The ACEM‑accredited Paediatric Emergency Department is co‑located within the main ED and provides excellent teaching and supervision by top Paediatric Emergency Physicians. ACEM trainees can fulfil paediatric requirements with 3‑ or 6‑month rotations.
Our EM and PEM teaching programs run every second Thursday, building on clinical learning. Simulation‑based learning is strongly emphasised, with a dedicated ED sonographer for ultrasound skills. Trainees develop leadership and decision‑making skills through a supportive environment, flexible rostering, formal mentoring, and wellbeing initiatives such as Schwartz rounds. All trainees receive a PD allowance of up to $10,000, contributing to high success rates in recent ACEM fellowship examinations.
We maintain strong relationships with other departments, allowing rotations through anaesthetics, ICU, trauma, paediatric, neonatology and statewide retrieval services to fulfil ACEM training requirements. Noarlunga Hospital provides Non‑Major Referral training.
Flexible rostering options include paired rosters, opposing rosters for families, and grouped shifts to provide longer blocks of days off.
What else is on offer?
Pay and conditions align with the current SA Medical Officers Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. The 3‑year contract offers flexibility for continued work beyond training in our mixed adult/paediatric ED and related rotations.
Other benefits include:
* 5 weeks of annual leave
* 8 hours of paid protected teaching time per fortnight
* 1‑2 weeks of professional development leave and/or examination leave
* Professional development allowance up to $10,000 per annum
* Salary sacrifice options to increase take‑home pay
