Position Information
Gloucester High School is a comprehensive school serving the communities of the Bucketts Way. Our school has a student population of approximately 315 students, of which 13% are of Aboriginal heritage. Our students come from both rural farming backgrounds and from the local town and surrounding villages.
There are two to three core classes in each of the years 7-10 and two Multi-Categorical Classes (MC Class) catering to students in Years 7-12. Years 11 and 12 are offered a range of course electives and we provide supervised support during Stage 6 study periods.
We have strong wellbeing support structures for our students. This is provided by school counsellor, school psychologist, head teacher wellbeing, year advisors, boys and girls supervisors and mentors. The school embeds wellbeing lessons into the years 7-10 curriculum and throughout the year holds whole school wellbeing events and activities that are inclusive of community.
The school has completed a situational analysis that has identified the following areas of focus for the school improvement plan:
1) Student Growth and Attainment – promoting Engagement and Resilience
2) InspiredLearningandWell-beingPartnerships – through Explicit Teaching and HPGE
3) Teacher Collective Efficacy – developing Learning IQ and Calm and Predictable Learning Environments.
This position would involve supervising the Mathematics and PD/H/PE faculty.
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach Mathematics 7-12 and capacity and willingness to teach Mathematics Extension 1 and 2.
- Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum development, with the ability to inspire and build the capacity of teachers in Mathematics and PD/H/PE to improve outcomes for a diverse range of learners.
- Proven capacity to build positive relationships and engagement across the school community which helps to create a vibrant and positive school culture of respect and learning.
- Demonstrated capacity to be a dynamic member of the school’s executive leadership team, to lead, manage and implement whole school initiatives.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE.
