About the Position
This role is part of a dynamic team that supports patient care within a healthcare facility. The successful candidate will work closely with registered nurses to deliver high-quality care and services to patients.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the delivery of direct care activities such as showering, bathing, sponging, repositioning, pressure area and skin care, hair washing, shaving, mouth and denture care, eye and ear care, assistance with toileting, provision, removal and cleaning of bedpans and urinals, general ward ambulation and support mobilisation.
* Reinforce instructions on use of aids for mobility or care as detailed in the plan of care, where appropriate.
* Observe and report patient completion of and performance of tasks in line with the care plan.
* Set up and assist with patient meals and fluids for assessed low risk patients.
* Perform simple wound dressings.
* Assist with last offices/care of the deceased.
Additionally, this role involves assisting in the collection of clinical data such as patient weighing and specific measurements, specific patient observations and nursing admission.
The ideal candidate will be able to observe patients physical and psychological status and responses during interactions and report changes to the registered nurse.
Patient observation reports should be submitted to the appropriate registered nurse.
All patient responses to direct care/assistance given should be documented including in progress notes and clinical records according to the plan of care and organisational protocols.
Maintenance of equipment used in nursing interventions is also an essential duty.
Beds should be changed and made up occupied and unoccupied beds.
A clean, comfortable, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors should be maintained and promoted.
