This role supports the Space Network Manager in effective lifecycle management of the Bureau’s integrated Satellite and Space Weather Networks, which include satellite ground stations and terrestrial space weather observation instruments, located across Australia, Antarctica and the Pacific region. It also assists with development of asset renewal plans and project proposals, risk and contract management and other network support activities as required.

This is essential to ensure the provision of reliable satellite data critical to numerical weather prediction, forecasting and warning services.

Key duties include analysis and reporting on asset performance, improving asset information in the Bureau's Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMS), lifecycle and configuration management and project support activities. It also includes managing maintenance regimes in EAMS to facilitate effective tracking and improvement of maintenance activities by technical staff.

As part of a team supporting space weather and satellite technologies, the role also provides technical support, including maintenance and repair activities and documentation.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

1. Monitor and report on network performance and maintenance, identifying operational issues and contributing to improvements.

2. Assist with the update of Asset Management Plans for the networks. Contribute to development of lifecycle costings, and sustainment plans.

3. Maintain asset information in the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), including equipment hierarchies, metadata and inventory information. Program maintenance activities through Standard Jobs and work orders and schedule maintenance work.

4. Contribute to the upkeep of technical, logistics and support documentation for the network. Oversee spares parts, logistics support and minor procurements for the networks, establishing stock levels and coordinating resupply with the purchasing support team.

5. Coordinate the program of maintenance and operational support activities across the network, providing supervision and support to staff and contractors as required.

6. Contribute to provision of technical support for space weather and satellite observing equipment, including preventive maintenance, repairs and configuration audits. Participate in on-call roster for after-hours technical support. Perform other general duties for network support as required.

7. Oversee minor project deliverables for equipment lifecycle projects and provide support to larger projects. Contribute to technical reviews for projects and Requests for Information from third parties.

8. Contribute to safety management for the network including participation in equipment safety working groups and upkeep of risk assessments.

9. Comply with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.

Eligibility

Qualifications

An engineering diploma or comparable qualifications in a technical field (electronics or telecommunications or similar). 5-10 years in technical/engineering experience. OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties
