Primary objective
Lead and manage the Communications and Engagement Unit, ensuring clients receive support and expert advice on the delivery of
communications, community engagement, design, marketing, and media relations activities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the communications and engagement team, develop and implement processes, policies and procedures to deliver
professional services to clients in line with whole of government protocols.
2. Initiate and provide high-level strategic communications, marketing, media, issues management and engagement advice and service to
the Chief Executive, Executive, divisions and the Minister's Office.
3. Provide expert advice on issues management and the reputation and positioning of the department and the NT Government in all
corporate communications, media and engagement.
4. Drive a culture of achievement through exemplary leadership practices with a focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of
communication, media, and engagement services through a high level of professionalism, innovation and quality client focus.
5. Play a significant role in the implementation of whole of government media, marketing and communication strategic initiatives and
deliver strategic communication interventions and initiatives to support the department and governments priorities, projects and
programs.
1. Provide high level advice, implement, manage and evaluate targeted communication activities including any required procurement and
contract management of external contracts.
1. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances across the department, other NT Public Sector
agencies, Minister's office, and relevant external stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
1. Manage staff allocated rotations on the on-call roster for 24/7 media responses.
2. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Superior communication, negotiation, collaborative skills that enable successful advocacy at a senior level within a complex
organisation to achieve negotiated outcomes.
2. Demonstrated comprehensive and practical understanding of contemporary, current and emerging communications, marketing, public
affairs and media issues, and trends locally and interstate.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in the preparation of high-level correspondence and material including briefings, reports, statements, position
and discussion papers, media and communication materials, speeches, submissions and documents for publication.
4. Proven capacity to effectively manage complex political issues and deliver effective communications in a highly sensitive, confidential,
cross-cultural and political environment.
5. A comprehensive knowledge of and experience in relationships marketing, media relations, social media, crisis communication, and
event management.
6. Evidence of high-level personal performance including the ability to manage staff, budgets, pressure and change in an environment of
continuous improvement, and modify approaches to suit changing requirements.
7. Previous experience in issues management and in delivering strategic communications outcomes in an infrastructure or transport
related environment.
Desirable
1. Relevant qualification in marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
