Who You’ll Work With
As a member of our Platforms team, you'll be at the critical intersection of hardware and software. We write the essential control software that brings our physical switches to life, managing everything from Ethernet PHYs and fan controllers to FPGAs and complex NICs. Your code will form the foundational hardware abstraction layer (HAL), ensuring system stability and health monitoring across all Arista product families. In our team, you'll own your work from definition to deployment, solving challenging low-level problems that have a high-level impact.
What You’ll Do
* Architect and develop embedded software in C/C++ and Python to manage and control hardware components on Arista's switching platforms.
* Collaborate closely with product management, hardware, software and FPGA engineers to define optimal software control interfaces and participate in the board bring-up process for new products.
* Own quality by building robust automated tests and test infrastructure to validate platform features and ensure hardware components function correctly across a wide variety of platforms.
* Lead and mentor by providing technical leadership across features and projects, contributing to design specifications and mentoring junior engineers.
* Engage customers directly with Customer Support Engineers and customers to analyze, mitigate, and fix complex hardware-related software issues in the field.
Required
* A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (BSc, MS, or PhD).
* Strong, demonstrable experience in C/C++ and/or Python in an embedded context.
* A strong and broad background in embedded systems software engineering, particularly on Unix/Linux platforms.
* Applied understanding of software engineering principles.
Preferred
* Hands‑on experience with low-level hardware communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, PCIe.
* Proven ability to read hardware datasheets and schematics to inform software design.
* Experience with the board bring-up process for new hardware.
* Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems.
* Knowledge of digital communication technologies like modulation and signal encoding schemes is a plus.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication and collaboration in cross-disciplinary teams.
* Self‑motivated with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
* Ability to design a solution and implement features independently.
* Ability to work in small teams.
