As such, we are seeking a Head of HSEQ to lead Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) strategy, governance, and performance across Gentari Solar Australia's expanding renewable energy portfolio. This role ensures that all activities undertaken by the organisation from project development, construction, commissioning, and operations—are delivered safely, compliantly, and in alignment with Gentari's global standards.
This position serves as the organisation's subject-matter expert for HSEQ risk management, regulatory compliance, audits, emergency preparedness, incident reporting, and system development. The Head of HSEQ leads the design and implementation of integrated management systems, digital HSEQ tools, KPIs, team structure planning, and continuous improvement programs. This role also works closely with project engineering, contractors, regulatory bodies, and the Gentari Head Office in Kuala Lumpur to ensure the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and quality excellence across all operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Governance
* Strategize and implement HSE & Q Management System framework, standard and guidelines.
* Direct the formulation and the implementation of HSE & Q processes through work collaboration with respective department heads, establishing and maintain L2/L3 work processes, formulating KPI's for all established work processes.
* Provide technical HSEQ advice to management and report directly to the Head, HSE – KL.
* Drive the development/implementation/improvement of HSE & Quality Management System which includes defining requirements for staff and contractors across projects and operating sites.
* Establish HSEQ team structure, headcount, and resource requirements in line with business growth.
* Consolidate, analyse and advise on new Regulations, guidelines, requirements and establish a comprehensive compliance plan.
* Review and develop gaps closure plans to ensure compliance.
* Prepare company-level HSE & Q Plans, Emergency Preparedness & Response Plans, and related documentation.
* Assess working conditions, hazards, and risks; develop preventive measures.
* Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and internal HSEQ requirements across all project phases. Ensuring activities are consistent with the HSEQ requirement while complying to procedures, standards, and statutory requirements.
* Lead digitalisation efforts for HSEQ systems, software implementation, and competency management.
Performance Reporting & KPIs
* Analyse HSEQ KPIs, reporting monthly to the Head of RE Australia, board, and HQ counterpart in Kuala Lumpur.
* Propose, monitor, and assign actions for KPI deviations; ensure robust incident reporting processes and integration with global databases.
Contractor & Subcontractor Oversight
* Review subcontractor HSEQ documentation and support them in meeting internal and project HSEQ expectations.
* Ensure subcontractor compliance through audits and performance assessments.
Audits, Inspections & Assurance
* Drive and coordinate overall compliance checks activities.
* Lead and drive resolution of non-compliance issues.
* Analyse findings and recommend intervention measures.
* Initiate, plan, coordinate, and follow up HSEQ audits involving all parties and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
* Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including HQ teams, regulatory bodies, certification agencies, contractors, suppliers and customers.
* Drive continuous improvement in HSEQ culture and performance.
Budgeting & Resource Planning
* Establish HSE Annual Plan activities, submit annual HSEQ budgets, covering resources, consumables, training, and third‐party services.
Skills and Experience Required
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.
* Minimum 6 years' experience in a senior HSEQ leadership role within renewable energy, construction, or infrastructure. Energy industries, renewables preferable.
* Strong understanding of HSEQ regulations, standards, and codes of practice relevant to the renewable sector.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with regulatory authorities.
* Experience in developing and implementing an HSE Management System for a project or operating site.
* Strategic mindset with ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
* Passion for sustainability and promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
* Willingness to travel as required; must hold a Class C driver's licence.
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (working rights required).
