Piggery Operations Manager
Agri-Nomics is seeking an Operations Manager on behalf of a client. This is a new position for the business and we are thinking of it as an 'apprentice' manager. We are looking for a motivated person who loves pork production to do their apprenticeship under the existing business owner so that the business owner can retire in 5 years time! This is an exceptional and unique opportunity to join a terrific family business and drive the business forward.
The large-scale piggery located in South West Victoria is the cornerstone of the operation and has achieved great production and profit through attention to detail.
There is a broadacre cropping business that operates in conjunction with the piggery and there are also significant plans for future expansion of the piggery enterprise!
Responsibilities
● Learn the business, culture, production system and key decision-making points from the business owner. So that over time, you will be responsible for:
o Staffing and culture
o Feed milling and feed ration
o Procurement of all piggery inputs
o Sales agreements and producing pigs to specification, new market opportunities
o Development and establishment of new piggery sites
o Maintenance and cleanliness of the site
o Health, Safety and Environment, including pig health!
o Reporting to the Board (family and advisors)
o Piggery profit.
Attributes
● High level of computer literacy and piggery climate control computer management.
● Ability to take instruction and guidance from the business owner.
● 3 or more year's experience in a similar role at senior manager level
● Passion for pork production to ensure the after-hours jobs get done
● A friendly and enthusiastic approach to work and people
● High level of honesty and integrity
● Mechanical knowledge for servicing and problem solving
● Understanding of and ability to work with business systems to enhance productivity
