Overview
Amazon Australia is seeking a WHS Specialist (WHSS) to serve as a designated safety professional on site. WHSS will coordinate and implement all areas of the Amazon Global Safety Program as directed by safety leadership. The WHSS promotes a positive safety culture while complying with Amazon safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes conducting trainings and coaching associates on observed work habits. The WHSS must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train associates, operations leaders and WHS coordinators in Amazon policies and procedures and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our standards at their site. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the landscape. The WHSS is required to maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate reporting systems. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, WHSS will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce safety and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a protected and healthful working environment for our Associates. A successful WHS Specialist will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis. The WHSS will also support the site WHS manager on the development of the WHS Management System for Australia, establish adequacy of WHS procedures and training materials, maintain the compliance calendar, Austin tools, review WHS documents and set up inspection/audit programs, etc., to meet local requirements and Amazon Global WHS Standards (GEMS). This role is a night shift role but may move to various shifts based on business need. Key responsibilities
Oversee the delivery of health & safety objectives at the fulfillment center, proactively collaborating on safety projects across the site and providing authoritative advice and guidance on H&S; matters. Ensure compliance with Amazon's Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) policies and global standards, including completing risk assessments, measuring site performance against requirements, and analyzing safety metrics to identify improvement opportunities. Conduct frequent site audits and inspections to identify and rectify non-compliance issues with equipment or processes; audit record-keeping practices to align with global standards and regulations. Lead and mentor on-site safety coordinators to identify compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities; facilitate incident investigations and maintain required documentation, entering safety incidents in the database in a timely manner. Review metrics as published in the Daily Deep Dive (DDD) dashboard and identify metric callouts with owners for discussion during DDD meetings. Moderate WHS metrics/data discussions during DDD meetings; review investigations, root cause analysis and action plans submitted by responsible managers and provide feedback as needed. Conduct risk assessments, attend and facilitate safety committee, and partner with operations managers to resolve issues. Respond to on-site emergency calls (unsafe loads, incidents, etc.). 1+ years of workplace health & safety (WHS) related field experience Experience using Microsoft Word in a professional capacity Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues in the workplace Preferred Qualifications
