Development Manager (Contract) – South Brisbane
Innovative Technology Construction Business is seeking an experienced Development Manager for a flexible contract role to lead high‐performing engineering teams delivering modern software solutions that transform the construction industry.
About the Role
You will lead and coach cross‐functional engineering teams (Product Engineers, DevSecOps, Data, QA, Agile Coaches), drive end‐to‐end product delivery, and shape engineering culture and practices. Reporting into senior leadership, you'll align engineering with business strategy, own technology roadmaps, and deliver measurable improvements in quality, security, scalability, cost, and speed‐to‐market.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, coach, and develop engineering teams and Engineering Managers (leader of leaders) in a servant‐leadership style
* Champion Agile/Lean practices, OKRs, Product Trio collaboration, and continuous improvement across delivery, CI/CD, security, and cost optimisation
* Drive architectural and technology roadmaps, modernise tech stacks, and foster a "you build it, you run it" ownership culture
* Manage engineering budget, capability uplift (skills matrices, training, learning paths), and successful team restructures
* Improve security posture, compliance, and operational excellence while delivering tangible business impact.
What You'll Bring
* Proven experience as Director of Engineering, Senior Engineering Manager, or VP of Engineering in SaaS/product‐led environments (ideally Brisbane‐based scaling companies)
* Strong track record in building and scaling high‐performing teams, driving process transformation, and elevating delivery velocity
* Deep expertise in modern cloud architectures (AWS), DevSecOps, microservices, and people‐focused leadership
* Passion for mentoring, change management, stakeholder engagement, and creating environments where teams thrive through autonomy and continuous learning
