Commercial Manager | Major Project Opportunity | Brisbane - Site Mobilisation (21/7 DIDO)
McConnell Dowell is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team in a pivotal leadership role supporting a significant new project in Queensland. This is a rare opportunity to join at project start-up and shape the commercial direction from day one. Initially based in our Brisbane office, conveniently located in the Fortitude Valley train station precinct, the role will transition to site-based operations at mobilisation, anticipated late 2026 / early 2027. Once on site, the role will operate on a 21/7 DIDO roster from Brisbane, with a generous roster uplift package.

Joining at the earliest phase of the project, you will play a key role in establishing commercial systems, strategy, governance and controls that will underpin successful delivery. This project represents an exciting opportunity not just for immediate project success, but for McConnell Dowell's longer‐term growth in the region, with strong prospects for repeat work and a lasting regional presence.
Key responsibilities
* Lead the commercial and contractual strategy across the project lifecycle.
* Manage head contract administration, subcontract strategy, procurement and commercial risk.
* Lead contract negotiations, claims management and dispute resolution as required.
* Drive project forecasting, reporting, cashflow and financial performance against budget and margin targets.
* Provide commercial leadership, mentoring and support to project teams including Contract Administrators and broader project delivery personnel.
About you
You are an experienced Commercial Manager with strong infrastructure or major project delivery experience and a highly commercial mindset.
You will bring:
* Demonstrated experience operating under collaborative contracting models, ideally including NEC4.
* Strong commercial acumen with proven capability managing complex head contract and subcontract arrangements.
* Experience in forecasting, cost control, claims, variations and project financial reporting.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills across client, subcontractor and internal project teams.
* Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce, Finance or similar (or equivalent relevant experience).
