Communications Technician (Leading Global Mining Equipment Manufacturer)
A global & leading manufacturer of Mining, Construction Equipment, Energy & Transportation has a Communications Technical contract opportunity available at its Underground Mining Equipment Proving Grounds in the Burnie Hinterland, Tasmania. You will be collaborating in a team that designs and tests prototypes of mobile underground mining technology. This role maintains & enhances the RF and data comms equipment at the site.
Position Responsibilities:
* Testing, commissioning and maintaining RF, networking, and data logging systems
* Installing RF comms hardware (hands-on skills)
* PC networking
Qualifications & Competencies:
* Certificate III in Electronics and Communication
* Open cabling license
* Knowledge of technologies used underground, including DMR, VHF leaky feeder systems, Wi-Fi and fiber-optic networking, and structured cabling.
* Operation, complex fault finding, and testing of communications systems using spectrum analysers and OTDRs.
* Current C Class License
Desired Skills:
* A solid understanding of the role that modern communications systems play in the underground mining process.
On the Job Skills:
* Operation of Underground Mining Machines (Both Manual and Remote Controlled)
You enjoy occasional travel to internal facilities to deepen your expertise and network.
This contract role is based in the Burnie Hinterland, Tasmania, and requires you to work at the Proving Ground 5 days per week. The initial duration is12 months with a strong possibility of rolling contract extensions for the right person.
You must have the unrestricted right to work within Australia to be considered for this role.
