About the role
As a Yardperson at Akura, you will be based at our Kelso HQ and play a vital role in ensuring the efficient management of yard operations, including coordinating logistics, loading trucks with Precast panels and Steel, and maintaining a safe and organised work environment. You will work closely with internal teams, including production plants and drivers, to uphold Akura’s operational standards and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm load plans with the Logistics Manager.
- Coordinate with production plants to ensure items for transport are ready and available.
- Load trucks according to the confirmed logistics plan.
- Safely operate a forklift to transport and position loads as required.
- Enter loading details into the driver’s load manifest book, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure all loads comply with legal requirements for transportation.
- Ensure the manifest is signed off by both the Truck Loader and Truck Driver.
- Maintain a neat, tidy, and safe yard environment at all times.
- Organise materials and equipment in designated areas for easy access and operational efficiency.
- Manage inbound deliveries, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
- Report any discrepancies or damages promptly to the Logistics Manager.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the Logistics Manager to support operations.
- Model Akura's core values and professional behaviours when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
About You
You are someone who loves to take initiative and isn’t afraid of hard work. This role suits a proactive, self‑motivated individual who’s keen to train and build their skills. You’ll be working in a physically demanding environment where independence is key at times—perfect for someone who thrives when trusted to get the job done.
- Previous experience in a similar yard or logistics role is preferred.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to operate forklifts (LF license preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Dogman, Rigging, Crane tickets are highly advantageous however not essential.
- Possession of a valid White Card is mandatory.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with internal teams and drivers.
