About the role
We are looking for a Male, Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer (AHLO) to provide key advocacy, education, and support for patients and families, and act as an intermediary between patients and other healthcare staff. The AHLO will improve cultural competence of healthcare workers, fostering trust with Indigenous patients and families. The role involves maintaining effective working relationships between hospital staff, Aboriginal Health workers, local Aboriginal communities, and local Aboriginal organisations.
Responsibilities
Provide advocacy, education, and support for patients and families.
Act as an intermediary between patients and healthcare staff.
Improve cultural competence of healthcare workers to deliver culturally sensitive care.
Maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, Aboriginal Health workers, local communities, and organisations.

Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification authorised by section 14(d) of the Anti‐Discrimination Act 1977.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, or able to legally live and work in Australia.
Applicants may be subject to a probationary period of six months from the date of appointment.
