Primary objective
To lead the implementation of the Connected Beginnings (Ngakwurrilangkwa Wurriyukwayuwa) project operational requirements in
partnership with the CB Project Lead. The position will lead Connected Beginnings staff to deliver integrated and targeted programs to
vulnerable children and families with a specific focus on education, health, children and families, and education and training. They will
support the facilitation of organisational strategy, measurement and evaluation and the facilitation of meetings including the Early
Childhood Practice Group, workshops and child development and parenting capacity activities. (Ngakwurrilangkwa Wurriyukwayuwa)
Groote Archipelago works across early years programs and classes including FaFT, Preschool and transition with staff based in the three
Community Schools – Angurugu, Umbakumba, Milyakburra and Alyangula Area School.
Context statement
Funded by the Australian Government, DET NT is implementing the Connected Beginnings initiative aiming to improve outcomes for
Aboriginal children aged 0-8 years to ensure they are healthy, safe and ready to thrive at school. This early childhood initiative supports
service integration across education, health, and family services to work in collaboration to improve every child’s development including
physical, social, emotional, and cognitive readiness for school and strengthening family and community engagement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. To lead a culturally responsive early childhood service system integrated across health, education and family services.
2. Support service providers and schools to develop and implement strategies designed to build capacity in early childhood programs
and services.
3. Provide high level advice on integration of early childhood and parenting services to achieve systemic change and positive outcomes
for Aboriginal children 0-8 years.
4. Act effectively as part of the Connected Beginnings Leadership team to promote a whole of community team-oriented approach which
is underpinned by the principles of collective impact.
5. Lead the implementation of innovative responses in projects and activities identified by key stakeholders that promote key
deliverables and population level change in children and families and across the communities.
6. Establish or connect with existing Aboriginal reference groups, lead capacity building and professional learning of Anindilyakwa staff.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage and manage a team to maximise
organisational performance and make a contribution in getting vulnerable Aboriginal children school ready.
2. Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across integrated projects and initiatives, ensuring responsive
program planning, effective delivery, and continuous improvement through collaborative approaches and evidence-based practices.
3. Proven experience in designing and implementing strategies that incorporate community voice into decision-making processes,
fostering inclusive engagement and ensuring programs reflect community needs and priorities.
4. Demonstrated cultural competency with a deep understanding of Aboriginal peoples’ needs, knowledge, and culture, and the ability
to work effectively within diverse and cross-cultural environments to promote equity and respect.
5. Competent in keeping confidentiality and record keeping in line with Government legislation, policy and procedures and the ability to
work within the NTPS Code of Conduct.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of, or experience in the early years, health or family services or other relevant fields and working within a collective impact
approach.
