Senior Station Hand - Mixed Livestock | Upper Western NSW
Yandama Station is a substantial, family‐owned pastoral enterprise spanning 150,000 acres in the remote Upper Western NSW region near Milparinka. The property has been operated by the same family for 80 years.
The business manages approximately 8,000 Merino sheep and 1,000 head of agistment beef cattle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the knowledgeable on‐site owner. With the owner concentrating on the theoretical and administrative side of the business, this position offers autonomy to run the place and manage all essential practical skills and day‐to‐day operations.
You will be entrusted with a comprehensive range of general pastoral station duties across Merino sheep, cattle, and goats, with a strong emphasis on maintenance and infrastructure, including fencing and general property upkeep.
Specific technical skills required include vehicle maintenance, mechanics, welding (MIG and ARC), and competent motorbike riding (2 and 4 wheel). You will also be responsible for managing and maintaining water infrastructure, including solar pumps, troughs, and tanks, as well as conducting routine building maintenance and water checks.
While you will primarily work autonomously, major stock work, such as mustering, is completed as a coordinated team effort.
The Offer
A highly competitive employment package is on offer, featuring above‐award wages and comfortable, modern accommodation provided as a furnished, three‐bedroom house. This residence supports a comfortable outback lifestyle with essential amenities such as reverse cycle air conditioning, Sat TV, Starlink internet, and reliable 4G Telstra coverage. The station is accessible via public road and offers quiet, peaceful surroundings.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a reliable, dedicated individual or couple with a demonstrated strong work ethic and extensive experience from previous pastoral stations, particularly in managing Merino sheep, beef cattle, and goats in isolation and over long working days.
You must be highly capable of working autonomously, demonstrating initiative and independence with minimal instruction. Essential skills include a manual car license, proficiency in strong fencing techniques, and excellent stock handling capabilities.
A positive attitude is valued; candidates should be polite, tidy, and take genuine pride in their appearance and quality of work.
Please note that working dogs are not required for the role, while pig dogs are strictly not permitted. A gun licence is beneficial but not essential.
