About the role
The Specialist – Emergency Finance leads and coordinates financial planning, management, and tracking across the Emergency Services program, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and responsibly to support resilience, response, and recovery operations. Working nationally, this role provides proactive financial readiness, real-time support during emergency operations, and thorough post-event reconciliation, while upholding the highest standards of organisational compliance, transparency, and accountability.
About you
As an experienced Finance Specialist, you will have sound financial discipline knowledge gained through experience in financial coordination, ideally in emergency, humanitarian, or community settings and proven ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure and to tight deadlines. Ideally, you will bring experience supporting workforce operations, incident response, or cost recovery and demonstrating familiarity with emergency management systems (e.g., AIIMS) and jurisdictional emergency protocols will be a significant advantage.

High level of knowledge and skills emergency management, developing SOP and financial accountability principles.
Strong coordination, planning, and problem-solving skills in financial management within complex operational environments.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping, reporting, and compliance.
Clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
Sound judgement and adaptability in dynamic, time-critical situations.
Knowledge of financial accountability principles, cost recovery processes, and emergency finance requirements.
Proficiency in financial systems and tools for tracking expenditure, forecasting, and reporting.

Ability to work under general direction from senior employees, exercise a degree of autonomy and work with and lead teams and people from diverse backgrounds to create a collaborative working environment
Ability to set priorities, plan and organise their own work and that of lower classified staff and/or volunteers
Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems and exercise initiative and judgment where practices and procedures are not clearly defined
Ability to provide expert advice to employees classified at a lower level and volunteers
Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award - Level 5. Salary from $100,****** + superannuation + salary packaging options.
