About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking experienced Data Centre Engineers and Lead Data Centre Engineers to support major infrastructure deployment projects across enterprise, hyperscale and AI/HPC environments. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large‐scale technology projects involving the installation, deployment and commissioning of critical infrastructure within some of Australia's leading data centre facilities. Successful candidates will join a highly skilled project delivery team responsible for delivering complex infrastructure deployments, technology refreshes, equipment migrations and AI/HPC installations in mission‐critical environments. The role offers exposure to cutting‐edge technologies, industry‐leading facilities and the opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced professionals in the data centre sector. An initial 6‐month contract is available with a strong likelihood of extension for a further 12 months based on project requirements and performance. Interstate travel opportunities may also be available to support projects across multiple Australian locations.
The Opportunity
You will be involved in the deployment, installation, commissioning and support of critical infrastructure environments including:
* Enterprise and hyperscale data centres
* AI and High‐Performance Computing (HPC) environments
* Network and server infrastructure deployments
* Rack and stack installations
* Structured cabling and fibre optic infrastructure
* Data centre expansions and migrations
* Hardware break‐fix and remediation activities
Lead Engineers will additionally be responsible for overseeing field teams, subcontractors and installation activities while acting as the primary on‐site technical lead.
Key Responsibilities Data Centre Engineering
* Rack and stack of servers, storage, network and security equipment.
* Installation, relocation and decommissioning of IT infrastructure.
* Copper and fibre optic patching, testing and labelling.
* Structured cabling installation and remediation.
* Hardware replacement and break‐fix activities.
* Equipment audits and asset verification.
* Remote hands services within live data centre environments.
* Documentation of completed works and installation records.
* Compliance with customer change management and operational procedures.
* Support commissioning, migration and deployment activities.
Lead Data Centre Engineering
* Lead teams of engineers, technicians and subcontractors on‐site.
* Coordinate project schedules, logistics and installation activities.
* Conduct daily site briefings, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
* Review project documentation including rack elevations, network diagrams and installation plans.
* Conduct site readiness assessments covering power, cooling, access and space requirements.
* Manage installation risks and project issues.
* Ensure quality assurance standards and installation best practices are maintained.
* Coordinate equipment deliveries, receiving and inventory management.
* Act as the primary technical liaison between customers, project managers and field teams.
* Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
* Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project schedules.
Skills & Experience Essential
* Previous experience working within data centre or critical infrastructure environments.
* Strong rack and stack experience.
* Experience installing and supporting server, storage and network hardware.
* Knowledge of structured cabling standards and fibre optic infrastructure.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, rack elevations and network diagrams.
* Strong troubleshooting and problem‐solving skills.
* Excellent organisational, communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Current driver's licence.
* Ability to work after‐hours and weekends where required.
* Willingness to travel interstate for project delivery activities.
Highly Desirable
* Experience with AI, GPU or HPC infrastructure deployments.
* Understanding of data centre power, cooling and facilities infrastructure.
* Experience commissioning new data centre environments.
* Knowledge of liquid cooling systems and associated infrastructure.
* Experience leading installation crews or technical teams.
* Familiarity with quality assurance processes and as‐built documentation.
* Vendor certifications such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo or equivalent.
* Working at Heights, EWP, White Card or other site‐based certifications.
* Experience working within enterprise or hyperscale data centre environments.
