About the role
The Service Engineer supports a fleet of locomotives in Port Hedland and is based onsite at the customer's Port Hedland maintenance facility. In this role, you will monitor locomotive performance, help identify and fix issues, and support day-to-day maintenance activities. You will work closely with customers, internal engineering teams, and suppliers to improve reliability and keep the fleet running efficiently. This is a customer-facing role where you will also provide updates on performance and respond to technical questions, so strong communication skills are important.
Responsibilities
* Monitor daily locomotive fleet performance and status
* Troubleshoot issues and carry out root cause analysis
* Investigate failures and provide feedback to the customer
* Support locomotive trial runs following major works
* Review condition monitoring data and identify issues early
* Contribute to reliability improvement initiatives
* Develop, review, and improve maintenance plans and documentation
* Support Maintenance Delivery Managers to ensure quality workmanship
* Ensure maintenance standards are consistently applied
* Raise and assess equipment non-conformance reports
* Provide clear technical instructions and support for additional works
* Work closely with engineering teams and key stakeholders
* Liaise with the customer to provide technical updates and reporting
About you
* Trade or engineering qualifications in a Mechanical or Electrical field (or relevant experience/alternative qualifications considered)
* Strong experience maintaining complex electrical and mechanical systems, including use of PC-based diagnostic tools
* Proven experience working with reliability programs in rolling stock, asset management, or heavy maintenance environments
* Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis
* Experience supporting locomotive maintenance or working in a similar role is highly regarded
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and work both independently and as part of a team
* Project or Systems Engineering knowledge (desirable)
* Experience in testing and commissioning rolling stock or heavy industry assets (desirable)
