About the role
In this role, you will focus on outcomes that achieve social equity and inclusion for communities and population groups experiencing inequity and disadvantage which impacts on their access to social, civic, and economic participation. You will assist with the development of policy, and the delivery of strategies and projects that advance social equity, diversity and inclusion within the community.

Key responsibilities include:

* Contribute to a range of activities in social equity and social justice to develop and implement solutions in line with Department strategy and plans.
* Develop action plans responding to community needs and aspirations to be delivered with external partners and in collaboration with internal departments.
* Assist the City in developing, facilitating, and implementing the social equity framework that responds to the needs of the community, which are evidence based, utilising data and insights, community development tools and methodologies, based on people's experiences.
* Conduct community research, collect relevant data, and present findings in various formats (presentations, reports) to communicate the needs of the community and inform decision-making.
* Enhance relationships and partnerships with community organisations, stakeholders, and local networks to enable the City to provide support to the community on various social and health equity priorities.

About you
The ideal candidate for this role is a collaborative and community-focused professional with demonstrated experience improving outcomes for people experiencing complex social, health or economic disadvantage. You will have a strong understanding of advocacy, research, policy development, capacity building, and community development principles, along with a passion for inclusion, diversity, and harm minimisation approaches. You will be skilled in building positive relationships with a broad range of community stakeholders to effectively engage diverse audiences and contribute to meaningful community outcomes.

* Tertiary qualifications in the Social or Health Sciences, Community Development, or a related field, which focus on community development, social inclusion, health promotion or substantial relevant experience in a similar field.
* Demonstrated experience and success collaborating with communities experiencing complex social, health or economic issues
* Understanding of the principles and functions of advocacy, research, policy development, capacity building, systems thinking, customer experience and community development outcomes.
* Demonstrated understanding of harm minimisation as a framework and strategic approach.
* Current Working with Children's Check (Employee)

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
