About The Role
The Assistant Supervisor position provides effective leadership and vital support to the field outdoor road maintenance workers, ensuring the safe and efficient completion of tasks while assisting the Supervisor West in day-to-day operations.

Permanent Full-time position based at our Rutherglen Depot9 Day fortnightAnnual Salary $73,785 - $84,228 ($37.34 - $42.62 per hour)
Key Responsibilities Include
Support Supervisor West in coordinating daily road maintenance operations, monitoring progress, managing routine matters in their absence, and reporting issues in line with Council procedures. Provide leadership and team support by mentoring staff, assisting with inductions, contributing to performance feedback, and promoting a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professionalism. Ensure safety and compliance by monitoring adherence to OHS requirements, SWMS, JSA, and SOPs, conducting site inspections, and reporting hazards, defects, or non-compliance. Assist with operational planning and asset management, including equipment maintenance, plant scheduling, site management when required, and supporting a proactive, patrol-based maintenance approach.
About You
We are seeking a civil maintenance professional with leadership capability, sound technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety and quality within a Local Government environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective decision-making, communication, and organisational skills, supported by relevant trade qualifications, licences, and plant operation experience.
Technical & Industry Knowledge: Understanding of civil construction and maintenance practices, relevant policies and regulations, quality assurance processes, traffic management standards, and heavy plant operation. Leadership & Management Skills: Ability to supervise and train staff, manage time and resources effectively, support contractors, apply sound judgement, and contribute to project management and operational planning. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Clear written and verbal communication, report writing ability, teamwork focus, and capacity to build cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications & Licences: Trade Certificate (or equivalent experience), plant operation tickets, Traffic Controller Certificate, White Card, Level 2 First Aid, strong Microsoft Office skills, and a current Victorian Driver's Licence (HR/MR preferred).
