Job Description
The Associate Professor in Clinical Education is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as playing a major leadership role in teaching, assessment, course convenorship and curriculum development activities relevant to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. In addition, the Associate Professor in Clinical Education will provide academic leadership to foster teaching innovations and excellence in scholarship, service and/or professional activities and make major original and innovative contributions to the field of expertise which are recognised as outstanding nationally or internationally.
The role includes direct contributions to the delivery of teaching in the MD program including team-based learning, teaching of clinical skills and communication skills, facilitation of clinical master classes and preparation of graduates for internship. It will also involve collaboration with academic colleagues across the campuses and sites at which the medical program is delivered to ensure a consistent, high-quality student learning experience.
In addition to the responsibilities associated with the Associate Professor of Clinical Education role, this position will take on the role of Program Director for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) for a period of 3 years. The MD Program Director, nominated by the School and appointed by the Dean of Learning and Teaching, provides overarching leadership for the Doctor of Medicine Program across all teaching sites at Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Toowoomba; with a primary focus on program delivery, quality assurance of the curriculum and responsibility for medical student matters. The Program Director may also be the Dean of Medicine's nominee for representation at internal and external committees. The Program Director responsibilities will be allocated for an initial period of 3 years.
Program Director Responsibilities
* Providing curriculum leadership for and quality enhancement of the program while working collegially with the Dean of Medicine, Deputy Head of School – Teaching and Learning, MD Program Advisor, MD Phase Leads, MD Program Support Officer, Academic Staff, Professional Staff and Clinical Staff to ensure positive student learning experiences and that program outcomes are achieved effectively.
* Working closely with the MD Program Advisor and MD Program Support Officer, maintain overarching responsibility for student issues including student health and wellbeing, student concerns and appeals, requests for leaves of absence, and academic integrity and professionalism breaches as well as approval of student progression, remediation and personalised study plans.
* Leading the MD Program Support Team comprising the MD Program Advisor, Program Support Officer, Phase Leads and Associate Phase Leads across the three teaching sites for the efficient delivery and resourcing of the MD Program and ensuring oversight for the Learning Management System (LMS) / Course Management System (CMS).
* Working collaboratively with the Dean of Medicine, Deputy Head – Teaching and Learning and MD Phase Leads contribute to the continuous review and improvement processes including the review of MD Program Guidelines, annual University-directed program and course reviews and annual reaccreditation monitoring by the Australian Medical Council.
* Working closely with the Dean of Medicine, MD Phase Leads and the Clinical Placements Team, ensure optimal engagement with Clinical Sub-Deans and Clinical Leads at all clinical training sites of the MD Program.
* Working closely with the MD Program Advisor and the Academic Title Holder Engagement Strategy Group, maintain operational oversight of engagement with clinical staff appointed to Academic Title Holder positions in the School.
* Working collaboratively with the Deputy Head – Teaching and Learning, Assessment Lead, Phase Leads, Course Convenors and External Consultants ensure ongoing quality assurance and rigor in assessments and assessment processes in the MD Program, and in the impact evaluation of the program.
* Representing the Dean of Medicine, School and the MD Program in external committees including at the Joint Medical Schools Placement Committees for hospitals and at Sub-Committees of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand (MDANZ) and Graduate Entry Medical Program Application and Selection Service (GEMPASS).
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary for an Academic Associate Professor (Level D) will range from $172,686 - $190,248 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will range from $202,043 - $222,590 per annum.
Qualifications
* Possess a medical degree from a recognised educational institution.
* Hold current registration in good standing or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as a medical practitioner.
* Possess a masters or doctoral qualification of equivalent accreditation and standing and/or professional fellowship (e.g. FRACGP, FACRRM, FRACP); and/or progress towards completion of a masters / doctoral degree or professional fellowship.
* Demonstrate leadership, expertise and experience in leading and managing undergraduate or postgraduate medical programs or healthcare programs.
