In Melbourne, our multidisciplinary Building Services group is deeply engaged in high‑profile projects with major clients and partners.
As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a pivotal part in design leadership, client engagement, project direction, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. You'll enjoy true autonomy, a strong pipeline of Tier 1 projects, and access to a national network of experts.
What You'll Do
In this senior leadership role, you will:
* Lead medium to large‑scale mechanical building services projects from concept through delivery
* Oversee full design development including reviews, risk management, technical direction and design assurance
* Manage project budgets, scopes, schedules and commercial outcomes
* Guide and inspire mechanical engineering teams, including senior, intermediate and junior engineers
* Coordinate seamlessly across multidisciplinary teams (ESD, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulics, Structures, Architecture)
* Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, acting as a key technical advisor
* Lead proposals, bid responses, fee submissions, and project strategy
* Champion continuous improvement, digital innovation and quality excellence
* Provide technical governance and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
* Represent the Mechanical discipline within internal leadership groups
About You
You will bring:
* 10+ years' experience in mechanical building services engineering within a consultancy environment
* A tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
* Demonstrated experience leading medium to large design projects across multiple sectors
* Strong technical expertise across HVAC, ventilation, heating, chilled water, central plant and specialist systems
* A deep understanding of NCC/BCA and relevant Australian Standards
* Proven ability to oversee multidisciplinary coordination and manage complex project interfaces
* Excellent written and verbal communication, including client-facing experience
* Professional Registration (RPEQ, RPEng, MIEAust or equivalent) — essential or immediately eligible
* Strong commercial acumen and experience contributing to business development
* Proficiency with design tools such as CAMEL; experience with Revit MEP/NavisWorks highly regarded
