Registered Midwife - Clinical Midwifery Educator

Newcastle Private Hospital is hiring a Clinical Midwifery Educator (CME) to join our team and support staff and mentor student midwives. The role is advertised as an 0.4-1 FTE permanent position; part-time or job share will be considered for the right applicant.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled, passionate and motivated senior Midwife who can work within all areas of the Maternity unit. The CME reports to the Midwifery Services Unit Manager (MSUM) and works closely with Clinical Maternity Unit Managers (MUMs) and the Midwifery Educator to deliver education and development services including our Graduate Diploma program.

The CME will contribute to supporting excellence in clinical midwifery practice, support evidence-based practice, and support the development of the student and novice clinician. The successful candidate will use advanced midwifery clinical skills, teaching methods, and strong communication to drive education improvements. The role requires initiative, flexibility, and high professional/clinical standards. Experience in preceptorship and other teaching roles is highly regarded.

Newcastle Private Hospital, part of Healthscope, focuses on high-quality clinical outcomes in a warm environment for families. We have over 1700 births per year and serve families from the Central Coast to the Queensland border. The hospital includes a 6 bed Birthing Suite, 38 bed Antenatal/Postnatal ward, 8 bed Special Care Nursery, and operates on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The facility has 189 beds and features 11 theatres, 15 bed ICU, and other services.

Responsibilities (May Include)

- Work with the MSUM and Midwifery Educator to support high-level education and training
- Clinical support and facilitation of undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery students
- Facilitate orientation and onboarding of new staff
- Provide hands-on educational support and clinical teaching to the clinical team, graduate midwives, and students
- Assist with competency assessments, learning plans and in-service presentations
- Promote evidence-based midwifery care through dissemination of current best practice
- Ensure staff compliance with Mandatory Training and eLearning
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on policy and procedure development, implementation and compliance

Essential Criteria

- Registered Midwife with AHPRA registration
- Extensive post-registration clinical experience in midwifery (minimum 6 years)
- Recent clinical experience in the birthing suite
- Certificate IV Workplace Assessment & Training (TAE) or working towards
- Experience teaching and supervising students and novice midwives
- Robust preceptorship and mentoring skills
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
- Demonstrated quality improvement activities and policy development/implementation skills
- Intermediate computer skills
- Hold a Valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) for employment

Desirable Criteria

- Previous CME experience
- Masters in Midwifery/Education
- Evidence of innovation in education program design and delivery using evidence-based practices
