Environmental Advisor - North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) | Tasmania GenusPlus Group (Genus) - Transmission & Energy Infrastructure
About the Role
As the Environmental Advisor on the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) project, you'll provide hands-on, site-based environmental support to help deliver one of Tasmania's most significant energy infrastructure programs. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you'll work closely with construction teams and subcontractors to implement project environmental requirements, install, maintain and audit controls in the field to ensure compliance with project requirements, permits and legislation.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on practical problem-solving, enjoys being out on site, and can confidently engage with crews to achieve strong environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Field Environmental Compliance & Assurance:
* Support the Environmental Manager to implement and maintain the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and relevant sub-plans in line with NWTD staging and construction sequencing.
* Conduct routine site inspections to verify environmental controls are installed and effective across activities such as earthworks, access tracks, vegetation clearing, spoil management, watercourse works, and reinstatement.
* Provide practical advice on environmental management techniques such as erosion & sediment control, ground and surface water management, noise, vibration and dust management and pollution prevention.
* Assist with maintaining environmental monitoring and compliance registers, spatial/environmental constraint data (e.g., no-go zones), and approval-condition tracking.
Monitoring, Incident Response & Reporting:
* support the development of and conduct monitoring and inspection programs for environmental management techniques employed by the project.
* Respond to and assist in the investigation of environmental incidents and near misses, helping prepare reports and supporting close-out of corrective actions.
* Prepare weekly/monthly environmental reports, dashboards, inspection records and supporting documentation.
Stakeholder & Specialist Coordination:
* Support respectful, compliant engagement with Traditional Owners, landowners, client representatives and regulators, including attending surveys/inspections where required.
* Coordinate day-to-day site needs with contractors (e.g., ecologists, fauna spotters, heritage specialists) as directed by the Environmental Manager.
* Assist in the response to community complaints by providing technical advice to the stakeholder teams.
Training & Culture:
* Deliver environmental toolbox talks/briefings and support project inductions to embed \"how we work\" environmental expectations on NWTD.
* Champion Genus values and contribute to strong SHEQ outcomes through participation in pre-starts, audits and inspections.
Skills & Experience Required
* 4+ years' experience in an environmental role within construction, utilities, linear infrastructure or major projects.
* Strong working knowledge of environmental compliance in construction, including large scale erosion and sediment management, groundwater and surface water quality management, contaminated land/spoil management, waste tracking/management.
* Demonstrated experience supporting approvals/permit condition compliance, contractor coaching, inspections, and incident investigation/reporting.
* Confidence operating in a field-based role, influencing site teams and subcontractors through practical, solutions-focused guidance.
* Solid reporting capability and competence with Microsoft Office and site reporting systems.
Qualifications / Tickets
* Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering (or related).
* White Card, current driver's licence, and ability to obtain/hold relevant clearances as required.
Desirable
* Exposure to ISO 14001-aligned environmental management systems and audit readiness.
* Experience on transmission line/linear infrastructure projects.
* Familiarity with Tasmanian permitting interfaces (flora/fauna handling permits, threatened species considerations, etc.).
