The Company
The South Australian Produce Market Limited (SAPML) owns and operates the land which is situated on Burma Road, Pooraka. The Market is the premier fresh produce wholesale market for the state where over 250,000 tonnes of fresh produce with a wholesale value of over $590M is traded between wholesalers, growers and retail operators every year. With an estimated 10,000 individuals accessing the market site each week, market operations are complex, with masses of highly perishable fresh produce passing through each day which is consumed locally, nationally and now internationally.
The Position
SAPML is seeking a casual forklift driver to work within our unloading team. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient unloading of vehicles, delivery of pallets to wholesalers and management of freight forwarding stock within the market, all whilst maintaining cold chain protocols. You will be working with a team of highly focused individuals to provide an exceptional level of customer service. This position would suit someone who is motivated to learn and looking for their next challenge in a fast-paced environment.
This role has the following key areas of responsibility:
Executing the requirements of our Unloading, Freight Forwarding and Cold Storage services
Unloading of stock from heavy vehicles
Pickup and delivery of pallets across the market square
Coordinate truck drivers for the unloading and loading of fragile goods.
Ensure all paperwork and manifests are accurate, present and signed at time of unloading
Ensure the safe and efficient operation and handling of goods during transfer
Paperwork is completed and delivered to wholesalers in a timely manner.
Ensure there is no stock or equipment loss
Support the requirements of the CHEP Square by recording pallet issues and returns
Ensure all equipment is in working order prior to starting work
Complete forklift pre-starts at the start of the shift as standard
Adhering to WHS principles and identifying and reporting hazards within the workplace
Following all policies and procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will require:
A current high-risk work licence
Experience driving a forklift
Experience reading and understanding manifests and transport paperwork
Knowledge and understanding of pallet management
Capacity to solve unforeseen problems, recognising opportunities and progress the implementation of plans
A high level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to liaise with market community personnel and negotiate effectively
Customer service skills
Trustworthy, reliable, and dependable
MS Office skills, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Casual Hours
Shifts will include weekdays and weekends.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1:00am -9:00am
Saturday 2:00am - 10:00am
Saturday 11:30pm - Sunday 5:00am
