Purpose of the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for the effective operation, growth, and development of
Southern Gippsland Junior Football Competition (SGJFC), currently comprising 7 clubs across
Under 10, Under 12 Under 14 mixed and Under 14 Girls competitions.
This role provides leadership in delivering professional, inclusive, and sustainable competitions.
The Operations Manager will ensure strong governance and administration, foster relationships
with stakeholders, drive participation growth, attract sponsorship, and enhance the visibility
and profile of SGJFC through strategic promotion and communication.
Employment Terms
This is a part-time, contract role with flexible working hours. The nature of the competition
and season requires availability to attend games, meetings, and events outside standard hours,
business hours, including weekends, within the parameters of the fixture and finals series.
Key Responsibilities
Competition Management & Operations
• Lead, oversee and administer the SGJFC in line with approved by-laws, policies, and
procedures.
• Develop annual fixtures, finals formats, venue allocations, and manage match-day
operations.
• Manage player and team registrations, transfers, and resolve disputes in line with
competition rules.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with SGJFC by-laws, codes of conduct, and AFL
policies by all clubs, players, and officials.
• Identify opportunities to review, overhaul, and modernise SGJFC by-laws to ensure they
are fit-for-purpose, clear, and aligned with AFL standards.
• Establish and document operational policies and procedures to support consistent,
efficient competition delivery.
• Support tribunal and disciplinary processes as required.
Governance & Committee Support
• Guide and support the SGJFC Committee to operate effectively and in accordance with
good governance principles.
• Work with the Committee to define and implement a clear structure, including
documented roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines.
• Provide advice and recommendations to the Committee on policy, governance, and
strategic matters.
• Prepare timely and professional reports for the Committee and stakeholders on
operations, risks, opportunities, and outcomes.
• Support financial administration by contributing to budgets, sponsorship invoicing, and
reporting.
Sponsorship & Promotion
• Develop and implement a sponsorship strategy to support the sustainability and growth
of the SGJFC competitions.
• Design and maintain a professional sponsorship prospectus/package outlining
opportunities, benefits, and value for potential partners.
• Actively identify, approach, and negotiate with potential sponsors to secure
partnerships.
• Manage sponsor relationships to ensure commitments are delivered and partners feel
valued.
• Work with the Committee to allocate sponsorship revenue effectively and transparently.
• Deliver initiatives to enhance the profile and visibility of Southern Gippsland Juniors and Female football in Gippsland
through strategic promotion, events, and recognition programs.
Social Media & Communications
• Manage and grow SGJFC's digital presence, including Facebook, Instagram, and other social media
platforms, ensuring content is engaging, timely, and aligned with SGJFC's vision.
• Develop and deliver a content calendar that highlights competitions, participants,
milestones, and sponsors.
• Monitor engagement metrics and adjust content strategies to improve reach and
impact.
• Build relationships with local media outlets to secure coverage of competitions, events,
and key stories.
• Ensure all external communications are professional, inclusive, and reflect the values of
SGJFC.
Growth, Development & Engagement
• Lead initiatives to grow participation and support club development and sustainability.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture across clubs, leagues, and stakeholders.
• Support the delivery of awards, presentations, and recognition initiatives.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
• Demonstrated experience in football operations or sports administration, ideally at
league, association, or club level.
• Understanding of community football structures, competition administration, and AFL
governance frameworks.
• Experience drafting or applying by-laws, policies, and procedures.
• Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience in sponsorship acquisition and managing partnerships.
• Experience in social media management and external communications.
• Excellent organisational, administrative, and decision-making skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capacity to work autonomously, take initiative, and manage competing priorities.
• Availability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the
competitions.
• Current Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle.
• Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain).
Desirable
• Knowledge of the Gippsland football community and its dynamics.
• Experience in leading governance improvement, committee development, or structural
reform.
• Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in junior sport.

Remuneration
Remuneration will be commensurate with skills and experience, to be agreed with the SGJFC
Committee.
