Biodiversity Project Officer Job Description
The Biodiversity Project Officer plays a crucial role in enhancing and protecting local ecosystems through strategic planning, mapping, data collection, and delivering biodiversity and natural resource management projects.
* Assists in prioritizing and implementing strategies to improve ecosystems across Lake Macquarie
* Develops and executes environmental programs related to aquatic and/or terrestrial biodiversity
* Undertakes research and prepares reports, funding applications, plans, and strategies
* Provides input into Council's planning frameworks to support natural resource management principles
* Collects, analyzes, and interprets natural resource and biodiversity data, including GIS mapping
* Supports continuous improvement of environmental management strategies and biodiversity data systems
* Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current trends and best practices in spatial representation of biodiversity, data collection, analysis, and management
Requirements:
* Degree qualifications in environmental science, marine science, ecology, or natural resource management
* Experience in aquatic and/or terrestrial natural resource and biodiversity data analysis and management
* Proven ability to use GIS and relevant software
* Demonstrated capacity to work independently, manage priorities, and contribute as an integral part of a team
* Current Class C driver's licence
