Carpentaria Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (CLCAC) has an opportunity for a passionate and committed professional to join our organisation in a temporary maternity leave cover position for 13 Months, commencing 15 June 2026. Based in the thriving regional City of Cairns in Far North Queensland, surrounded by lush tropical rainforest and on the doorstep to the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, this opportunity offers you a chance to impact the lives of people living in remote and rural parts of the southern gulf region of Queensland.

CLCAC was established 44 years ago in Moungibi (Burketown) to represent the rights & interests of Traditional Owners. We support native title, PBC business and economic development and First Nations land and environment management programs with the overall goal of being the leader of sustainable indigenous community development in the lower Gulf region, where our people are self‐determined and empowered to take control of country, culture and their economic future.

The Opportunity
As the Senior Finance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the Corporate Services Unit, providing direct support to the Deputy CEO / Corporate Services Manager. In this position you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the financial and administrative team, ensuring the integrity of CLCAC's financial records and compliance with legislative requirements. You will be instrumental in driving operational efficiencies, managing complex budgets, and fostering a high‐performance culture within your team, all while ensuring that the organization meets its strategic and reporting obligations to funding bodies and auditors.
Supervise and mentor the financial and administrative support team, managing staff performance, KPIs, and professional development.
Maintain accurate MYOB records and provide timely monthly financial reports, including balance sheet reconciliations and budget analysis for management.
Assist in the development of CLCAC budgets and prepare essential performance reports, annual financial statements, and grant acquittals for funding bodies.
Coordinate annual auditing processes with external auditors and ensure the organisation meets all legal obligations regarding Tax, IR, and Privacy laws.
Review and maintain financial administration policies and procedures to increase operational transparency and efficiency.
Oversee the organisation's Asset Register, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, managing maintenance schedules, and coordinating annual stocktakes.
Manage the Legislation Register to keep staff informed of accounting standard changes and maintain a comprehensive register of all organisational insurances.
Liaise with external IT consultants to manage software licenses, monitor IT assets, and ensure robust data management and cloud‐based backup processes.
Manage and monitor lease agreements for office premises and the vehicle fleet to ensure service continuity.
Assist in the development of the CLCAC Annual Report and support recruitment processes to meet the evolving needs of the Corporate Services Unit.
Eligibility / Skills / Qualifications / Experience
Degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent
National Criminal History Check required
Minimum three years' experience in a similar role
Experience supervising a team
Advanced skills in MYOB Accounting Software or similar
Experience with IT Systems
Strong attention to detail
Well‐developed analytical, conceptual and problem‐solving skills in accounting and financial management information systems, and
Well‐developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work as a leader and a member of the team.
Special Conditions
Must have a C Class Manual Drivers Licence
Must obtain a National Police Clearance
Some out of hour's work, including weekends, and

The position is a full‐time temporary position, commencing 15 June 2026 and ending on 16 July 2027 and may involve irregular travel throughout the lower Gulf of Carpentaria region:
Salary Range: $90,220 to $95,602 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
