We are seeking an experienced and compassionate School Counsellor / Psychologist to join our Junior School and Gawura School community.
This position is offered as a permanent 0.4 FTE role, with the opportunity for the successful applicant to work 0.6 FTE until the end of 2026, transitioning back to 0.4 FTE thereafter. Start date – 3 August 2026.
Working within the School's Christian context, provide counselling and personal support to our Junior School students. The role supports students, staff and families to promote student wellbeing and positive learning outcomes.
You will work collaboratively with teachers, Grade Leaders, the Specialised Learning Department and the broader wellbeing team.
Key responsibilities
* Provide short‐term and ongoing counselling support to Junior School and Gawura School students
* Assess student needs and make referrals to external health professionals where appropriate
* Conduct initial interviews and assessments
* Support students to develop positive coping strategies and life skills
* Liaise with parents, teachers and school leaders in the best interests of the student
* Provide general and crisis pastoral support within the School community
* Undertake psychometric assessments when qualified to do so
* Contribute to relevant task groups and wellbeing initiatives
About You
* Relevant counselling or psychology qualifications and experience
* Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (or eligibility)
* Strong knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy
* Experience working with children in a school or comparable setting
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* High levels of organisation, initiative and the ability to work independently
* A commitment to supporting the School's Vision, Mission and Christian ethos
Experience with psychometric tools and the identification or diagnosis of disorders is desirable.
