operational backbone
of the business and the
people experience
that makes it all work.
This isn't two jobs squashed into one - it's one role with two clear priorities:
1. Operations:
making sure strategy gets executed, systems run smoothly, and the business has the structure it needs to grow.
2. People:
making sure our team of journalists, sales, design, and ops are supported, aligned, and clear on expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
* Own day-to-day business operations, from processes and workflows to cross-team coordination.
* Turn strategy into execution - ensure big ideas don't fall between the cracks.
* Drive efficiency: streamline systems, reporting, and communication channels.
* Work with leadership to set clear goals, then make sure we deliver on them.
People & Culture
* Be the first point of call for staff on HR, culture, and team matters.
* Run recruitment, onboarding, and role clarity across the business.
* Build and maintain a high-performance culture: expectations, accountability, and support.
* Set guidelines and boundaries around remote work, communication, and responsibilities.
* Drive engagement - make sure our people know where we're winning and where we're improving.
What success looks like
* The business runs smoothly without bottlenecks.
* Roles and responsibilities are clear across the whole team.
* New hires are brought in efficiently and effectively.
* Culture is strong, expectations are set, and people know how they contribute to the bigger picture.
