**Primary purpose of the role**
The primary purpose of the role is to perform dosimetry audits for the ACDS, as well as lead and develop the auditors in the program, at radiotherapy facilities across Australia and New Zealand. This includes performing high-level data analysis, interpretation of audit results and maintenance of the ANZ Datasets. The incumbent will liaise with radiotherapy centres across Australia and New Zealand to deliver and promote audit services, and improve and tailor them as required for clinical requirements.
- The role includes responsibility for scientific and technical development projects, working within a multidisciplinary team to develop new technologies to test and verify emerging therapies and treatment techniques. You will organise and manage one or more areas of technical and quality support for the dosimetry service including measurements on ARPANSA's linear accelerators, equipment calibration and maintenance, and OSL dosimetry.
- The position is based in ARPANSA's office in the Melbourne suburb of Yallambie, and the role includes regular travel to perform audits throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The key duties of the position include:
**Key accountabilities**
- Perform complex dosimetry measurements for the ACDS, both in ARPANSA and in radiotherapy clinics. Measurements will include treatment dose assessment using phantoms, beam characterisation and linac output.
- Perform data analysis and interpret results to produce technical reports of sound scientific basis and clarity, ensuring any recommendations regarding non-optimal outcomes are sensitive to the customer's clinical needs.
- Lead and participate in ACDS research and development activities, which may lead to conference presentations or peer reviewed publications.
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the ANZ Dataset for internal quality control and audit benchmarking.
- Responsible for one or more areas of technical and quality support for the dosimetry service including measurements on ARPANSA's linear accelerators, equipment calibration and maintenance, and OSL dosimetry.
- Perform extensive and comprehensive testing measurements of dosimeters, associated equipment and audit protocols.
- Maintain standard operating procedures within the ACDS quality manual.
- Some staff supervision is required, ensuring that tasks are appropriately prioritised and are completed in a timely manner by staff members.
- Liaise with radiotherapy facilities to promote the service. Collaborate with radiotherapy centres to improve the audit services and tailor them to clinical requirements, including abiding by state and federal health department recommendations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with other internal services in ARPANSA who provide technical and administrative support to the audit program.
- Represent the ACDS on internal committees, contribute to scientific reports and participate in external conferences and workshops of national and international relevance.
Eligibility
**Job specific capabilities**
To be considered for this role you will hold appropriate tertiary qualifications in a branch of the physical sciences. Experience as a medical physicist or radiation therapist, or a relevant post-graduate degree would be an advantage. You should be familiar with the fundamentals of radiation physics and dosimetry particularly as applied to Australian radiotherapy treatment practice, particularly in modern and emerging technologies such as stereotactic treatments, motion management and specialist treatment machines. An awareness of quality assurance activities in a radiotherapy centre is an advantage. Experimental and analytical skills are desirable, and good communication and scientific/technical writing skills are necessary.
- A flexible work arrangement can be negotiated, but the role requires on-site attendance for the use and access of resources and equipment. You must be prepared to travel to perform audits throughout Australia and New Zealand as required.
- You must hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency status leading to citizenship. This position is a designated security assessment position which will require you to successfully undertake and maintain a security clearance. ARPANSA requires all employees to undertake a Baseline Security Clearance as a condition of engagement.
